Property Taxes - Polk County

A large part of property taxes are for schools. Iowa is way higher than Arizona on this list (13 vs 45). There are gives and takes on everything.

That's true and their spending per pupil is pretty low. I probably need to look at a different state for a better comparison.

Pretty sure that the tax statements that just went out are based on 2022 valuations.

I understand that statement, but I do not believe that any government Authority would ever take a 24% increase in their budget in one year.

Just go ours in the mail this morning. Went up less than .15%.

Additions to the tax base cause most of this. Just a hunch. Look at the dollars of property tax revenue (top of budget publication) This year fy 24 versus the fy23 budget. I am betting it increased (by percentage) more than the taxes on statements. They are are all on the Department of Management website. Polk County isnt an average County but 5 to 10 percent is pretty normal this year, for county budgets.
