After 5 years in prison, former prep football star exonerated for rape, kidnapping

As reported by the Associated Press, Good Morning America and a variety of other outlets, 27-year-old Brian Banks was officially acquitted of the violent charges against him after his accuser recanted her story after a bizarre turn of events that began when the woman reached out to Banks on Facebook.

While the accuser, a woman named Wanetta Gibson, told Banks she wanted to "let bygones be bygones", she was hesitant to repeat the story she told the former Long Beach (Calif.) Polytechnic High football star to prosecutors because she was afraid that she would have to forfeit the $1.5 million civil settlement her mother won against the Long Beach school district in connection with the case.

Wow... The whole story isn't there, but in my opinion it's time for the woman to do some time for falsely putting an innocent man in jail. Of course that in addition to repayment of that money that they apparently thought was worth more than freedom of a person.

How can you really live with yourself for five years knowing that you put an innocent man in jail?!?

Remember that football player named in the felony warrant for rape? Just saying it's a quiet Friday night...

This. One thing, IMO that is nearly as awful as rape is falsely acusing someone of it. There has to be some accountability on her part and I am not talking about some pathetic, meaningless apology..."Oops, I guess you didn't kidnap and rape me. Sorry."

And this was from the article: she wanted to "let bygones be bygones" - what the **** does that mean? Sounds to me like she wasn't acually raped and had some kind of grudge against him. If you ask me they got the victim and the predator mixed up in this case.

She should spend a day in prison for every day he spent in prison, plus a 50% premium, IMO.

But watch: She'll make bank on this somehow.

Wow, I'm sure he served some pretty hard time for those charges.
Not only should that lady spend the exact same time in prison, but also tack on a few more years for being a lying *****. Also, they should give that innocent man all the money that she got from the school + another million for having to go through what he did in prison.

Based on what I could find she could face up to 4 years in prison.

Why was Gibson awarded money in a civil suite against the school district?

Edit: I guess it happened on the campus, but I don't know if that still makes it right.

I don't get how people can just lie to get a person that they know didn't do it into prison. Didn't she think (probably not) about what he would have to go through?

Put her *** in jail for 15 years.

On top of the woman being a disgusting piece of garbage, how did the justice system fail this kid so profoundly?
