I realize that we probably don't have the depth to press 40 minutes of hell style, but I keep wishing we would press a little bit more early when we are so stagnant simply to speed things up a little bit or to limit how much time they have to run their offense. Even if we just pressured the ball and inbound pass briefly. Can't do that against every team but some like tonight (and I think against UAB last year) maybe it helps break you out of the funk.

I think that might gas them a little much at least until we get Burton. Coach said Monte asked to go out at about five minute mark and he called the time out then to get him back in.

We don't need to press to get things going. We just need to play smarter offense in the half court to start the game. Defense wasn't great but it wasn't really effort but rather execution and poor matchup problems.

I need to add. I looked at the boxscore at half. Aside from Uthoff and turnovers, Iowa State was ahead statistically. We had like 7 steals to their 4, had more offensive rebounds, etc. I think they had a few more assists, but that was Uthoff and our turnovers.

I'm sure Prohm knows 1000000x more about basketball than I do, but I'd press with Jameel randomly 2-3 times a game after a made basket. He's so good at it and it would really catch teams off guard doing it randomly.

I like it. Especially once Burton comes into the fold. Can push Jameel a bit more in rotations.

If we had 2 more capable and reliable players, especially at forward, I would be more on board with this. Just don't have the horses.

He's saving it for the conference season.

Press thread! Drink!

Was that game not on Overdrive pretty much the entire way? The game didn't even take 2 hours. I think the first half was 45 minutes of real time.

I agree, and because Jameel is such a good runner... he would be quick to get back if the press is broken.

I wouldn't mind an occasional press to keep momentum going when we score after having a lull, to keep momentum and get some quicker baskets.

If it's a depth/fatigue issue, I think it's just as important to find a way to be able to sustain intense half-court defense for longer periods, the type we saw down the stretch when ISU was in must-stop situation.

Prohm addressed this in his interview after the game with Eric Heft. He said "I know people are going to say why don't we press more, but we can't because we don't have the depth to do that" (that's pretty close to his quote)
