Pregame atmosphere

In all the years I’ve been a season ticket holder, 29, last night was the best pregame atmosphere I have ever seen at Jack Trice! Loved the Thunderstruck theme as the team made their way to the field. The fireworks were a bonus! You could feel the energy everywhere. Hopefully we stay with this!

Things they still need to work on keeping the atmosphere in the Jack the best they can. I know it helps with the play on the field but little things like timely energetic music makes a difference! Not sure why they can’t find 6 legitimate songs and play them throughout the game. We already have 3 songs so we just need to find 3 more. We have Thunderstruck before the game, nothing in the 1st quarter, nothing in the 2nd quarter, Juicy Wiggle in the 3rd, nothing in the 4th and Sweet Caroline after the game.

On another side note, I do think the band and the students are one! You should not separate them! They feed off of each other. Not sure why they can not get this corrected! All-in-all, things were better but still have some areas of improvement to be made!

I have two kids who are going to ISU with season tickets and you are correct. However as I have been told all the bells and whistles pregame do absolutely nothing once the game starts like you stated. That is where the students along with the band come into play. Because like I have stated before......students make noise all the time the entire game. Where the electronic goodies need to be silent once play has started. There is zero reason they can't have both. None! And there is no reason to have the students crammed in the corner where they by all means have no impact on the game.

Don't want to hear about donors and their seats now. There are a plethora of ways the university could that raise that kind of money without kicking the students to the curb.

Thunderstruck playing while we get a view of the team in the cardinal-lit tunnel with C-Y-C-L-O-N-E-S lit up on the ceiling is absolutely awesome! Of course, that lighting may not be easy to replicate for an 11 a.m. kickoff. Seemed that there were more fans in the stands at kickoff than usual, but it would be even better if there were not thousands still rolling in after kickoff.

All in all, a good atmosphere. Can the students be moved to the NW side? I know that the west side has often been considered the more affluent side of the stadium, but I assume there still is a desire (and added liability issues) to keep students from impeding the visiting team from getting off the field after the game.

The band hasn't always been in the endzone, but it is a great place for them, and they do have their own seating area now. But for years, the band sat on the lower level on the east side.

Atmosphere was indeed outstanding.

My only complaint is the speakers. I know they are now accepting bids for a new speaker system, but they cannot replace the speakers soon enough. All of the sound is coming from the north end and it's incredibly distorted. I'm not a big fan of some of the songs and hearing them so distorted makes it flat out painful.

I’ll follow up on the speakers. For years whoever runs it feels that they have to crank it to 11 which is completely not necessary. During the pregame when they started to do the “cyclone power“ chant, they cranked up some stupid song on the PA system and had it so loud that you could not even hear the crowd. The timing and implementation was ridiculously bad. Get someone in there that actually understands sound and knows how to coordinate with the other activities going on.

The primary problem is how the speaker arrays are aimed. Every other issue is downhill from that. The new vertical arrays should theoretically help that.

Interrupting Cyclone Power was just stupid.

I've been saying for years that they need to make Thunderstruck the team entrance song. I was so ecstatic to hear it last night!

Agreed with the Cyclone Power chant. We got drowned out pretty quickly by whatever was playing. New speakers are desperately needed if that is an option.

Otherwise, the atmosphere last night was outstanding. I loved every bit of it.

Agree, Thunderstruck just seems like such a natural fit with everything else we have going on. Smart move.

I thought the students rocked the corner. The atmosphere was seriously one of the best I have ever been in. Sure there were things like drowning out Cyclone Power, but the opening felt like big time college football, and they should capture and do that every time.

I always wonder where people sit when they talk about the students. Sitting in 30, I rarely heard them before, now I hear them routinely.

The people ahead of us were shocked that they could hear the students singing the National Anthem. Duh. Guess maybe they hadn’t been to a game before. They even put up the words and tell you to join the band in singing.

We can hear the students loud and clear but they should be moved back by the band and I suppose it has to be west side across from where they used to be. Guy sitting near us said they are getting new screens and audio system next year. Not sure his source but really hope he is right.

It was up in another thread. New video boards and sound for both hilton and JTS. New video board will span the full width between the 'posts' of the current structure

Also new audio and video at CSC (soccer, softball, track) and new video at Beyer and Lied.

Surely the music selection would have to depend on the score. Can't play "We Are the Champions" if we're down by a TD at any given point.

And what songs have generational appeal? Doesn't AC/DC seem a tad bit retro to the Zoomers?

Might I be so bold as to suggest the legacy of "Cowbell" for one of the quarters? Maybe the 3rd if we're down to encourage and for a smug laugh if we are ahead? Or do they only do that for the step show?

Speaking of step shows, bravo yet again.

What about the band being in the south end zone? The recent permitment bleachers in the north couldn’t have been that expensive. Plus the AD could use the north w zone bleachers as seating options for fans.

I’m guessing the students will always remain in the south now.
