[poll] New site design under consideration

Attached is a screenshot of what I've been working on for the new design of the site. It is very preliminary and still has a lot of work left to be done on it. Please let me know what you think.  It's a lot cleaner and less 'busy' layout with flexibility in mind.  There will be a latest forum section at the top, I just haven't gotten that far yet.

I think it is great....maybe have one section for recent forums and another for recent polls! If polls get pushed back, people don't get a chance to vote.
 
Outstanding plan for sure.
How about a small picture of the mascot Cy also to fire us up?
 
I don't think it's bad, but why are you changing the design? The current one is pretty easy to use.

Have you considered changing to actual Iowa State colors, though? ;)

I just thought red instead of orange would make more sense. Maybe he just wants to be different, which is fine too.
 
My vote is keep it simple and easy. Sometimes people get carried away with looks and lose function. This current design works fine IMO.

Looks great, but a little more red wouldn't hurt. Also, any way to get an ISU logo of some kind on there? A faded one in the backround might look pretty sharp.
 
Contemporary is a good word for it. I think it looks more professional as well, not to knock the current design at all.
 
I like the simple layout that we currently have but also like the more professional design of the new layout. The current design works but coming from a web-design perspective, it seems to look dated and dull, just my opinion though.

Ultimately it will be up to everybody else what we stick to but I will make sure to keep it simple and effective no matter what. One question I really need input on; Does everybody think the forums here are adequate for features and speed or would you like a better and more complete forum package? I have something in the work for the new design that is a full forum package but don't know how much people pay attention to it's actual functionality.
 
It's kind of hard to visualize with just a screenshot, but I love your old logo. Hate to see you go away from that trademark.

I also think having two ways (tabs & side bar) to get to a particular spot is a waste of screen space. You could provide value for the lost space by using one of the methods for jumping directly to a specific forum. That assumes that the forums are the most popular destination.

One comment I've been meaning to feed to you is that the SUBJECT title for a given thread needs to stand out more in the forums when you are viewing a thread.
 
Opinion: I like it... I personally don't mind the orange color... it separates it from the other cyclone sites, any color is fine though for me... not a fan of the grey at the top however.
I like the stuff on the right of the page and am glad to see it staying there.
I see Home, Contact Us, Forum, Links buttons on top and on left... kinda redundant... but not a huge deal

Question: Does this mean we lose the calendar? I kinda liked that and planned on helping to update it with events... but if nobody really uses it... then I guess there's no point.
 
Jeremy...maybe if you had a intro to the site that had some sort of articles instead of updates...more pictures!!!!!! Thats my only request is that we can put up pictures easily.

Just curious - what software are you using for your site?
