I was curious why the Interstate in Polk County I-80 & I-35 North were not cleared off today on the way to and from the ball game like Interstate 35 in Story County was. That said we made it to the game and back home, just had to take it easy in Polk County.

It's all the DOT's responsibility to clear (as opposed to county or local governments) so I wouldn't think there would be an issue between counties. Maybe they prioritized roads closer to Ames, knowing there would be a lot of gameday traffic.

I agree, but around Ankeny was a sheet of ice even after the game.

Most major roads in Polk County are "completely covered" per 511ia.org as of right now. I have no answers as to why but it appears to be more than just the interstate.

I stayed in Ames after the Baylor game and came back to Des Moines on Sunday morning. The area between Ankeny and downtown Des Moines was fairly icy after that small snow storm. Weird.

Only thing I can guess is maybe there as more traffic through DSM area than north of Ankeny that contributed to more snow pack? Once you get north of Ankeny it was pretty clear and about 60+ pace and on the way home almost normal driving conditions. The roads were a little better around DSM on the way back but still a big slow down once you hit Ankeny and much more snow pack still on the road. Hopefully with warmer weather the next 3 days it helps melt off what they are having a hard time scraping off and will also help the side streets and roads too.

Story County and Polk County are handled by seperate maintenance garages, so different crews.

This. More cars on the roads down here packing it down before the trucks could get it cleared (or keep it clear).
