This is exactly why I don't feel sorry for these guys in relation to the Yankees or Red Sox. You purposely don't pay anyone, you suck, and you make a bunch of money. That is obviously their business strategy, which is fine, just don't ***** about the Yankees and Red Sox spending.
I DO think it's funny how people go on and on about all the players the Pirates have traded away... After Ramierez not many of them have done ANYTHING since being traded... I don't blame them for trying to get something in return while they could, the only problem is the previous regime made HORRIBLE trades and did even worse drafting. Now they are at least investing in young talent, spending more in the draft and scouting than any other team and signing 3 of the top 5 teenage pitchers in the world. Things will turn around, but blindly throwing money at free agents is not the way to do it.
