MLB: Pirates: 17 Straight Losing Seasons

if your a pirates fan I feel bad for you because it could easily be another decade or so the way this team is headed

Indians fan man. Not saying much but have done a lot more in the past 17 years than the Pirates lol. I'm just saying..being a Pirates fan has got to suck.
 
If they'd hold onto players once in awhile, they'd be competitive. Nady, Bay, and what's his face they shipped to the Braves would've been a very solid outfield this season but they'd rather ship them all off before they have to pay 'em.

I think the team is FINALLY headed in the right direction. You basically have to choose if you want to develop players or go about building your team through free agency. For years, the Pirates did neither, they signed economical draft pics and made trades for guys to just fill spots (anybody remember Bobby Hill?). They have finally started to build a pretty solid farm system and got rid of nothing more than role players to do it. Combine that with a strong draft and the Bucs should have a Top 5 farm system next year.

Next year, if they aren't in contention at the break, they will HAVE to start trading some more pieces (Duke, Doumit), if they are in it at the break, I really think you will see them use some of their pieces to go out and get some help...

They got two of their best players for Nady, what has he done since? McClouth probably would be the fourth outfielder on the team right now.

That trade was one of the biggest fleecings I can remember in MLB trades.

If ownership would either hold on to players or buy a couple of big time free agents, they would be on the right track. Even if they're not winning divisions and going to the playoffs right away, they would have the support of the fans there if they get some big names in town. It seems like their ownership is just content to sit there and cash the checks from ticket sales and concessions rather than be proactively building a team.

Bay is the ONLY 'big time' player they have had since A-Ram. It's not like they are trading away stars...
