Phillip Fulmer interested per Cotlar

In another article, it notes he was offered an administrative position at TN. He accepted - but didn't he later retract on that?

Yeah but I believe this was only a 3 month position and only paid like $37K. As to all of you talking about his buyout being $1.5M/yr over the next 4 years, if you read the ESPN article posted on here by 22 it has a quote in it where Fulmer himself says he would give it all up just to coach again. I say offer him $1.5M a year w/incentives for winning so many games, going to a bowl, winning a bowl, etc. If he's truly interested then by his quote in that story $ won't be a huge issue since we will come close to or exceed what he would make from his buyout.

He's certainly a "name" hire, but color me a bit unimpressed with his record the last few years.

If he's not winning with GOOD players in a weaker than usual SEC, I'm not sure he's going to win with our average players in a stronger Big XII.

And he lost to freaking Wyoming this year.

Hiring Fulmer is looking back at his past, not looking forward to the future of ISU, IMO.

He would be exactly the "name" hire that we don't need instead of the "coach" hire which we do.

I am just glad to here that someone is interested in the Iowa State job. Seems like after Gill said "no way Jose." I was worried everyone with a big name would not give JP the time of day. I think Fulmer would be a pretty exciting hire. I think existing players might think about staying around if we were to hire someone like Fulmer.

I live in SEC Country and he doesn’t have a great reputation among league coaches. Heackstabbed Johnny Majors and once stopped the game during a first-quarter blowout of Arkansas because he saw someone on the UA sidelines videotaping.

The kid was a student manager that was taping his trips for a class project. Fulmer insisted the camera be confiscated and brought the kid to tears.

There’s other stories as well. Not to mention he couldnt recruit his way out of a wet paper bag the past couple of years. If he cant bring quality recruits to UT, how can he bring them to Ames.

Thanks, but no thanks.

Re: Who is he thinking of?

Cotlar and Conn are idiots. Who cares if someone "has interest" in the ISU job. Is he serious with this? The biggest dork in the world.

Those two *** clowns lost me when they were all ga ga over Karen Kay. All 3 have faces only a mother would love. Perfect for the radio.

They were down this year, but he won his friggin SEC division last year.

Guy has only had 2 losing records in 16yrs at TN and averages a 9-3 mark through that time.

Anyone who doesn't support this hire is CRAZY

That said...I'll believe it when I see it.

To be fair, we don't really know what Gill said. If you are going to take what Marty and Miller say as gospel, well then I have some land I want to sell you.

There are reasons not to hire any coach out there. Risks come with all of 'em.

IMO, Fulmer comes with some of the least risk - as he's proven he can win and win against some of the best teams.

No, he's both the "name" and "coach" hire. Do you people honestly think the man is washed up or something? He's 58. He was in the SEC. Not everyone can win every single year.

What is hilarious is some people are suggesting that Fulmer could use us as a stepping stone. He's Phillip freakin' Fulmer. He's ONE HUNDRED games above .500 in his career. The winningest coach in our school history is 30 games under .500.

Now I don't know if this report is true. It's probably very fabricated. But to suggest that we should pass on Phillip Fulmer is out of this world insane.

Certainly a step up from the previous dude.

I don't remember hearing about a lot of delay of game calls. He must know how to get things organized on the sidelines. Good recruiter, brings a lot of credibility to the whole thing quickly.

Interesting idea.

If he comes here, with his age he should be able to find young "hot" coordinators. The reason, they know he won't be here for the long haul and have a chance to take over in a few years (hopefully with a turn arounded program).

I just wanted to go ahead and get that question out there instead of having it linger around all day. I like getting things like that out of the way. He doesn't look like a guy that wants to do a lot of moving around.

If he's interested, let's explore this thing.

I meant nothing personal by it, I just don't understand how it would be possible that we would be a stepping stone job. He doesn't have to work, as he has that buyout, and he doesn't need to build up a resume by any means. If he still wants to coach but not for Iowa State, why wouldn't he just wait until next year?

I'm trying not to get my hopes up because this would be unreal.
