Phelps blows away the field in his first try for gold in China. If our
people do a super job does this make the USA feel better it self?
Is this what this country needs to get on the to recovery.

What exactly are we recovering from? I know there are some problems going on, just wondered what specifically you mean...

I'm guessing he means it may help us feel better after all the talk about the lackluster economy and faltering US Dollar.

I don't know about you, but I don't feel bad about the USA. I don't want to get this thread moved to Politics, so I'll just say that the day I feel bad about being an American is the day I move to another country. And that will never happen.
 
It amazes me that Michael Phelps races against Olympic caliber swimmers and makes them look like they don't even belong there. Total domination in a race that Phelps "doesn't really like." Unbelievable.
 
A woman's race that just finished had both 1st and 2nd place swimmers come in ahead of the world record. How much would that suck to beat the world record and come in 2nd in the same race? This pool is on 'roids. Could be a real fun Olympics to watch from the swimming perspective!

That was a pretty unreal race. Those ladies are ripped...

Well, either that or they accidently built the pool a few meters too short and didn't tell anybody... :wink::biglaugh:
 
I wouldn't say the pool is on roids. There is such a thing as a "fast pool", but the bigger issue are the suits that are being worn. If anything is on roids, it is the suits which NASA helped design with the help of Rick Sharp (works at ISU).

All this said, Phelps is going to blow this thing away. He clearly knew that he didn't have to prepare as much for the trials, so he could focus his energies on this week. From hear, his two biggest races left are the 100 Fly, and making sure the US doesn't get DQ'd in the relays.
 
Phelps > Bode Miller

Both guys hyped up like no other - of course completely different sports and Olympic seasons,

The other difference is, one guy backs up the hype. I hope he's got a few more of those gold medals coming to him.
