NFL: Peyton Manning has 2nd neck surgery; out minimum of 2 months

Yesterday on Mouth of the Midwest, Marty Terrell said a local radio guy from Indianapolis first broke the story that Peyton would be out much longer than a game ... saying possibly the entire season. So naturally ESPN and Chris Mortensen would swoop in and pretend to be first to break the story.

Oh, that sucks. Hard. I hope ISU can pull it together, because my eggs are all now in the college football basket. If Kerry Collins can get them to 4-4 at the halfway point I'll be shocked.

Then again, this could be the ultimate test for the Ewing Theory. Sports Guy fans know what I'm talking about.

I havent read what his surgery was for...but assuming it was to clear scar tissue around his nerve.. this process seems likes it could easily take much longer than 2 months.

Nerve regeneration following these types of surgeries can take months.

Guess we now know where Luck is going to go.

My initial reaction to that is to say "No way, the Colts have way too much talent to fall to the worst record in the league." But after thinking about it, that offense is entirely predicated on number 18. I don't think there's another quarterback in the league that could run with the same success. Without Manning, the Colts have what? A sub par running game, shaky defense, and nobody to throw to their receivers. (I realize they have Kerry Collins, but is he really better than nobody?)

They very well could go 4-12, this year and be in the mix for the number 1 pick.

Garrard sucks. Collins is 50 years old.

Garrard is pretty far from sucking. He's an above average qb in the NFL. I don't know that he fits Indy's system, but he sure doesn't suck.

I guess you're right. I don't think anybody but Manning and Brady can run Indy's offense,

I wonder if even Brady could run it, not because I think Manning is better than him, but because it's an offense created by and for Manning, and is very customized to him.

I was under the impression that nerves don't regenerate. Once they are gone. they are gone.

Thats pretty interestig because just this morning on mike and mike Mort was saying that someone he trusted said that there was nothnig another surgery could fix so he didnt see why that would happen.

Billick was opining, maybe based on the other guy mentioned in this thread, that he would be out all year. Or at least that it was a far larger potential for that then had really been talked about yet.

Colts probably won't make playoffs this year. Manning is that whole offense. I feel bad for Colts fans.

I don't, I am a Raiders fan, no one sheds a tear for us, I won't shed a tear for them! lol:twitcy:

On a serious note, it does suck for them, I could only wish we had a good QB like that (And Al leaves/dies) we could build something around, then maybe we could be good again....Potentially a tough season ahead for the Colts.
