Perfect time to embrace Jack Trice heritage

I kind of agree with this.
We should all be proud ISU stepped up and named the stadium after Jack.
In addition, we should all be very proud of Clay Stapleton and the Dirty 30 team.
They were going to play OU in Norman for the conference title. When they checked into their hotel all the white players were assigned rooms. The black players were told they could not stay there, and must seek different accommodation. Stapleton said, if that was the case, the team would return to Ames and not play the game. Famous OU coach, Bud Wilkinson, was brought in. He got the hotel to allow the black players to stay there. Stapleton was willing to cancel a chance for the title to do what was right. (I am 95% sure I have the facts correct. Note: ISU lost the game)

I think ISU, OU, and Mizzou would have all tied for lead at 4-2. Mizzou beat ISU that year, so even with a win not sure ISU goes to Orange over Mizzou (Mizzou was selected over OU because league had a rule against consecutive bowl appearances I believe).

I would not be claiming that ISU has always been 100% on the right side of issues, but let’s not forget, regardless of the path taken, the Stadium is named after Jack Trice. I will look forward to the story.

ASU did a PT42 helmet decal, which is allowed. They did a PT42 patch, which is allowed.

If they had tried to put "Tillman" on the back of everyone's jersey, that would be against the rules.

I don't think any ISU fan can claim that (or any institution, honestly) but at the same time, the way those tweets were written by SportsbyBrooks, were very "gotcha" esque. Which ISU fans took personally because, especially over the last 25 years, ISU has continued to do more to honor Jack Trice. The stadium being named for him was a huge hurdle, because there certainly was push back. But for him to call out iowa staters on not knowing the whole story is just plain BS. I rarely tweet anything, but I was almost inclined to do so to that jackass slant haha

ISU admins will look bad for resisting the name change in the 70's, 80's, and early 90's.

Certainly, and administration should be held accountable for that pushback originally. I think what had people most up in arms about it was that he lead on that Iowa Staters either didn't know it was a struggle to get it named and/or never told anyone about the story/JT after they heard it the first time. Or at least that is what annoyed me.

I also read about how Daryl Royal resisted allowing any black football players at UT. In contrast, Hayden Fry refused to accept being the coach at SMU in 1962 unless they agreed to let him recruit black players.

I always get a kick out of these stories from the competitive angle. Fry wasn't an idiot and wanted to win. I mean it's obviously the right thing to do, but to not push for it means winning isn't a priority.

Same thing with the historic UTEP basketball team. We think Fred hacked the system by getting those transfers in at a previously unseen level. This was talent influx on a completely different level than that.
