I’m looking at a Traeger 22 or 34 type pellet grill. Anything to look at outside of Traeger for a similar or cheaper price? I’ve had an electric and and LP smoker and both were junk. It will mostly be used for smoking since we have a Weber gas for everyday stuff.

Go to pelletfans.com as they have done some testing on different smikers

I can only speak about Green Mountain as I have the Daniel Boone. They all have pros and cons. Customer Service is a big thing as you will have some sort of problem with whatever you get. I posted on the “customer service” thread on here on how well GM has treated me over the life of my grill which is going on 7 years now.

Mine sits outside all year and I have a cover and thermal blanket for it. I use it year round! Just my two cents on the durability of it.

Whatever you go with I hope you enjoy it!

I had been looking hard at a rec Tec but also now a camp chef due to all the add ons and the built in shelf.

My dad has a Yoder and it is pretty solid (literally- their steel has to be some of the thickest in the industry) which helps with heat retention.

I have a Traeger Junior Elite that I got on sale for $300 3 years ago and it does OK but isn't amazing IMO. Lots of temperature fluctuations.

I'd buy a Pit Boss (original Traeger guy now works for them) but the only thing that I can't stand about the is they don't have a 275F, 325F, or 375F setting. It's something like 225F, 250F, 300F, 350F, 400F, and High. 25F increments are much better than 50F increments, which my Traeger has. But I can't believe in the year 2021 there isn't an affordable pellet grill out there that doesn't offer a controller that lets you select a temp to 1F. Anyone want to start a new business with me...

Any opinions on Z Grills? From what I understand they used to manufacture grills for other people before releasing their own brand.

Green Mountain. I have had two. Gave one away and bought a new one. You won't be disappointed.

I’m hoping Hawgeyes has a GMG sitting there that I can check out.

I just went a checked out the Pitboss and Traeger and the Pitboss felt way better built for whatever reason. It felt thicker everywhere but that doesn’t mean the heating element/auger and electronics are up to par I guess.

Bought a Camp Chef Woodwind early this year. Absolutely love it. Got the sear box attachment, but a lot of people love the sidekick because of its versatility. If you're used to LP smokers, you may want to get a smoke tube to add extra smoke to your cooks. Like $15.
