Has anyone replaced a patio door lately? Any places you'd recommend? I have an old French door that is kind of rotting a bit. I'm not looking for anything spectacular, but is the main door that I use. And any idea what it costs to get something like that, with installation?

It really depends on whether you want another French door or a slider. There is a huge difference in quality of doors as well. You can spend as much or as little as you want. The size of door really effects the cost as well.

Siding and trim work and vinyl or wood are also a big factor.

I’d go to the local lumberyard and see what you like. Take some measurements of the old door first. They can give you names of people to install also.

@isufbcurt really needs to branch into lawn care and home repair to go with taxes and race cars. CF has needs.

I am pretty handy. I did all the tile floors in our house, installed the quartz countertops and some hard wood floor work.

I just remodeled the entire inside of my racecar hauler and it turned out really nice too LOL

My husband and his brother wrecked our plumbing in the master bath a week before I had a nine pound baby. Guessing you are even smart enough to call a plumber if there is a woman waddling around with a bowling ball on her bladder.

Just put a slider in last summer. The thing got back ordered for a month and in between the time of order and pick up, it went up $600.

Can’t really tell you what installation would be, as we took out windows and cut in the door, plus replaced another door and poured a patio.

We got one with blinds inside the windows. Definitely worth the extra cost.

Curious, why do you think it’s worth the extra cost?

If that's all it is, I'd be thrilled. ;)

Sorry, it won’t. Lol. If someone does bid that in labor, don’t hire them. I’d plan on a couple thousand for the door an installation for the average slider.

So in college since I stayed in town during the summer for FB workouts I worked at a Plumbing Wholesale store in Ames. I got to know a lot of Plumbers, which is why I have so many plumbing clients now. So I do know how to do plumbing. For my hauler project I mentioned above, I replumbed everything, new shower, new kitchen sink and all new pex lines.

How long will an install like that take? If he charges $80 an hour and can get it done in 3 hours that’s $240. Usually a door can be done in less than three hours, but if you have specific circumstances that make it more difficult, it could take longer I guess.

We live in a split foyer and I completed a major home improvement project recently where I replaced our plain Jane front door with a new door that included sidelights and transom.

I saved a ton of money by purchasing my door through the Door Clearance Center in Houston (https://www.doorclearancecenter.com). Although I had to pay for shipping costs, I still saved a ton of money compared to buying it in central Iowa. This place sells patio doors, so I'd encourage you to check them out.

Very happy with all the added light the new door brings into our home.

I’m not following your math one but at all.
