passing routes

Do we have any pass patterns other than outs and hooks? When was the last time we ran slants and hit receivers in stride. Additionally, how many times are we going to run play action pass on 2nd and 3rd and long?
 
I don't care what patterns we run, once the ball gets there the receivers need to catch it.
 
And if it's 3rd down can we run the routes deep enough for a first down? On the second to last play of the game if the route is run a yard deeper, ISU wins.
 
I want to see a lot more Collin Franklin and Darius Darks and less ol the other who fail to get separation. Our real problem is we have few open receivers, so I suspect they are not so good at getting open or heaven forbid the routes are vanilla and stodgy. AA had to throw to covered receivers several times today since they could not break open.
 
--and their guys are always WIDE open. Thing that bothers me about next year is that I don't see any improvement in out coverage as the season progresses. Those guys couldn't defend against my granny with her walker. (she's been dead for 45 years) It seems like we have improved speed a little, but the opposing teams just get faster and faster. There aren't that many 4.3 DBs to be had. I'm no coach, is it lack of speed, or technique, or positioning that is allowing all those 25yd passes to wide open receivers?
 
We recruit these athletic and fast receivers and take away their athletic ability. It seems almost every pass they catch is an out at the sideline or a hook where the defense wraps up as soon as they catch the ball.

They drop balls on the sidelines. They drop balls in the open field. They drop balls everywhere. The playcalling is just fine. If they aren't executing, it's awful tough to win games.

I'm not saying the playcalling is perfect, of that it's all the receiver's faults, but there's a lot more points and yards being left on the ground due to poor execution than there is due to poor playcalling.

I don't think the coaches are saying "hey we need 8 yards..run a 7 yard out route".

I don't care how predictable our routes are, the ball is there, and the play calls are "good enough" to do what they are intended to do.
 
The commentators mentioned that our O coordinator had simplified the playbook after some of the guys were having too much thrown their way, or something like that, in the first half.

I'm betting that the simplification involves passing routes as well.
 
were just pretty bad im pretty sure alot of d2 schools could break open past our secondary
 
my only problem with darks is that he needs to catch the ball more consistently. It seems like he drops a lot of easy throws. But he also makes some really great catches too
 
I agree with many on this post. Our guys need really take advantage of good passes and secure them. Also I believe that our offense is not using slants often because we can't. At least I would like to believe that is why. These men running the team have made their career out of being professional coaches. If we are not using these routes the they must see a major inability to succeed with them. At least that is what I am hanging my hat on. I do not know about you guys but I believe my course of action will to be patient, observant and support our men out on the field
