This was suggested by someone else on CycloneFanatic. I will set the number at $3,000,000 a year

I'm saying around a base of 1.8-2.0 will possibly 500k of easier to get bonuses and 500k of unlikely bonuses.

Go look at the list of coaching salariws. If we're not willing to pay at least 3… we may as well quit. 3 mil is like base salary for anyone in the top 50.

Here would be my breakdown for paid salaries:

As Cyclone fans what should our overall expectation/goal be?

*Win 0-4 games a year I think would be worthless- I'm so tired of only winning this many games. (1% chance of hiring this coach)
* Make a bowl game most but not all years- 5-6 wins per season- I think would be worth $1.5M. (21% chance of hiring this coach)
* A bowl game every year at minimum- 6-7 wins- I think would be worth $1.75-$2M. (52% chance of hiring this coach)
* Win 8-9 games a year and flirt with conference championships once every 5 years or so I think would be worth $3M a year. (25.5% chance of hiring this coach)
*Win 10+ games a year and win conference championships I think would be worth $4M a year. (.5% chance of hiring this coach)
* Win 13-14 games a year and win national championships I think would be worth $5-6M a year. (0% chance of hiring this coach)

$3m+ type coaches are going to have better employment opportunities than Iowa State.

And we aren't paying $2m coaches $3m just because we can afford to (if we can afford to).

You guys perpetuate the myth that coaching salaries need to keep going up. Agents and coaches have you right where they want you.

As long as the market power is in the hands of sellers, I certainly don't want Iowa State to lead the revolt against coaching salaries.

We need to be over $3 million, considering Herman got offered $3 million(with annual raises) and Memphis has offered their coach $ 2.5 million.

Rhoads was making I think $1.9m this year(not counting the $300k lump sum payment he was to get in 2015, not sure if he had to be coach on last day of year to get that).

So, all that said, my guess is we pay somebody like $2.3m to start.

From all the candidates being discussed, only the unrealistic ones warrant 3m (like Miles). And we aren't getting them even if we pay 3m.

Wow, Kansas coach only made $800k this year. That is the type of results you get when you pinch pennies.

Kansas said Beaty's contract was incentive laden, but according to my math, even if they're undefeated and win the national title, he would only make $1.575m

Base salary... under. I'd say our "competitive" salary that we end up paying is between $2-2.5 million. We should offer bonuses that would push total pay above $3 million though.

And if rhoads hadn't tanked we would've been paying him 3 mil by now I'm sure.

My opinion is it should be over. Go after coaches like Fedora at NC or Cutcliffe at Duke and pay them around 3.5 mil with bonuses. Time to be a football school.

Edit: Add David Shaw at Stanford to the list.
