Looking to throw some backyard tailgates this year, and am thinking of purchasing a projector for the games. Can anyone make some recommendations that won’t break the budget?

Idk but that’s a good thing to think about. I’ll be running the projector watching Brock run for TDs just like this

I bought an Epson hc 1060 this spring that we use with a 9' x 16' screen. We have used it a lot since then for movies and am hoping for some cyclone night games. With any affordable projector that is outside you won't be watching anything much before dark. It's been an awesome purchase

Does your projector have built in speakers? How did you get the game outside? Wires? We have Mediacom. Can we use a sheet instead of a projector?

My neighbor does this - most projectors have a built in speaker, nothing exciting but probably good enough for a football game. What he does is plug an apple TV or something into the projector, streams whatever on his phone, and then casts the phone stream to the Apple TV which then plays on the screen. It's honestly pretty easy.

Like BryceC said the speakers might be ok for a football game, I want to say they are 2 watts. I hook a 150 watt stereo up to mine. I normally just use a laptop and run the sound through the headphone Jack to the stereo aux inputs because it is the easiest way to do it. My projector doesn't have audio outputs so I cant run a streaming stick hooked to the stereo without an audio extractor.

The other way I have hooked it up is to run it through my av receiver by running a 75' hdmi cable to the projector and rca cables to the stereo, I don't have to take any other equipment outside then. That's how I hook our xbox up to it.

You can use a sheet as the screen. You just need to get it tight. A few wrinkles won't ruin it. The screen I use is a stretchy PVC material with grommets all around that is fastened to an emt conduit (steel pipe) frame with bungee straps that hangs on the side of the house with shelf brackets.

We tried a cheap projector from Amazon in the past and I just put house wrap on a sheet of plywood and it worked just fine. This setup is way better though.

For the OP, unless it's a night game you would be better off with a tv outside. A projector cant compete with the sun.

On a side note, Mulan will probably be the next thing we watch on it and I'm a little excited for it. The kids and I will probably reenact some of the martial arts on the trampoline while my wife shakes her head

I have an old set of computer speakers I plug into mine, makes a big difference. Sheets do work.
At home we plug our Roku into it. When camping I use the Roku app on my phone, that plugs into the projector using an HDMI iphone adapter.

I paid $150 for a cheap Vankyo and it works fine. Has to be really dark to use, so no day games.

Have you already upgraded your Disney+ subscription or are you planning to do this when you watch Mulan?

How many lumens is good for a projector?

My understanding is that it's just a one time fee whenever you first want to watch it and then it will always be available to you. I saw it will be available dec 4 if you don't want to pay extra.

So many variables for this question. If its completely dark you can get by with 1000 if your screen isn't huge. If you have some light to compete with or a big screen you will want more. A lot of projectors are in the 2000-3000 range and vary depending on the settings.
