Otz is back

I think this is great news. I was lucky enough to share a beer or two with Otz so I'm a little biased, but he couldn't be more personable and imo there's no doubt he loves Fred and ISU. Don't know all the reasons he left but it sounds like he and Fred were hoping to get back together again, and it didn't take long. With the additional strong ISU connection with Allison and TJ now a family man, this may even work out well as a long time move. I trust Fred and welcome back Otz!

Yep, that was quick. I'll take it. We already know he's a capable recruiter.

Based on the talent we had stockpiled at the end of the Gmac era? Or from the productive recruits we had during Fred's first 2 seasons? Based on the studs he brought to UW?

I love the dichotomy here: OMG MATT A LEFT AND WILLIAMS IS RECONSIDERING?!?! WHAT A JERK! Then... OTZ IS COMING?!?! CAN HE BRING DIME?!?!!?

Uhhhh...

In his first stint with the Cyclones, Otzelberger played a major role in bringing a number of outstanding recruits to Ames. Among them was Melvin Ejim, an All-American on the court and in the classroom at Iowa State.Ejim, the 2014 Big 12 Player of the Year, finished his career as one of the top scorers in school history, with 1,643 points. He is second all-time with 1,051 career rebounds, making him just the fourth player in Big 12 history with 1,500 points and 1,000 rebounds. Ejim’s senior season went down as one of the best in school history, earning All-America honors from five different outlets and winning Big 12 Player of the Year Honors.
Otzelberger’s other Cyclone recruits included: Craig Brackins, a two-time All-Big 12 performer; Diante Garrett, ISU’s second-best career assist man and eventual NBA player; Mike Taylor, an All-Big 12 performer and 2008 NBA Draft pick; Scott Christopherson, Iowa State’s all-time leading three-point shooter and an All-Big 12 Third-Team pick in 2012; Will Clyburn, the 2013 Big 12 Newcomer of the Year; and NBA player Justin Hamilton.
In all, Otzelberger helped tutor four 1,000-point scorers and 13 All-Big 12 performers (Taylor, Wesley Johnson, Jiri Hubalek, Brackins, Marquis Gilstrap, Garrett, Christopherson, Royce White, Ejim, Chris Allen, Clyburn, Tyrus McGee and Korie Lucious) in seven years at Iowa State.

Was T.J. the recruiter for Malik Dime? As we were apparently his second choice, I wonder what the chances are of him asking for a release and coming here?

Edit: never mind, Dime is already enrolled at UW.

The thing people need to remember is that Otz loves ISU, his family wants to be here, he's an excellent recruiter that already knows how to bring talent to ISU, and he clicks perfectly with Fred. Of course his heart will be set on getting a head job in a few years, but he's going to give ISU everything he has and open/reopen some doors we really needed cracked.

Big win for ISU and the prospects for our growth as a program past next year's great team.
