The Blake Gideon love is all about him being a senior captain, 4 year starter on a great defense. Also, the lack of elite level safeties in the league. In my opinion Markelle Martin from Okie State is a better player but there isn't a lot of other good safeties in the league. I can think of Ty Zimmerman from K state and thats about it, anyone else?
My burning memory of Blake Gideon will always be of him dropping the sure-INT that would have sealed Texas' win over Tech (and B12 South Championship), right before the Harrell-to-Crabtree winner.
I think Gideon was a true freshman that year, so it's hard to be too tough on him. Maybe he gets some sympathy votes because of it...? Who knows, but he's a good player, for sure.
