Tomorrow the regent's universities will be partnering with the Iowa Donor Network to raise awareness for organ donation. There are approximately as many organs being waited for in the US as there will be people in Kinnick and Jack Trice tomorrow combined. There are about 559 organs being waited for in Iowa (471 are kidneys of which we all have two and only need one).
A few facts. People of most ages and health conditions can donate. My son was five years old. My daughter was five months old. Medical providers work to save your life first. Both my kids were resuscitated at the scene. My son as life flighted to the hospital. Only much later after everything has been done is organ donation even discussed. Organ donation costs the donor family nothing. Organ donation does not affect the ability to have an open casket funeral. Both my children did.
I'll be at the Iowa Donor Network booth tomorrow before the gam telling our story. Stop by and say hello even if you've already signed up, or even if you have no interest in signing up. Just make sure you introduce yourself by your CF screen name. Go Cyclones.
Thanks
