Okay, be honest. What was your initial reaction when CMC was hired?

Honest reaction?
"Who?"

I'm not even sure I can name all the FB coaches in the Big 12, let alone the ones from the other P5 conferences. Which doesn't leave much hope for naming the ones outside the P5.

I know who he is now, and I'm glad he's here. :)

I was pretty happy to be honest. Partly because I expected him to do well, but mostly because I made the claim that season to everyone that would listen to watch the ISU @ Toledo game because the future coach was standing on the opposing sideline.

I don't get the opportunity to be right all that often.

I can't remember, but I probably wasn't on board when his name came up. I think I assumed he would take the Mizzou job.

I thought the Chizik and McDermott hires were great. I didn't like the Hoiberg or Rhoads hires. Nailed it.

I figured it’s a young coach, recruiting should improve, Toledo is good. We can’t be any worse so let’s see how this pans out. Will there be a Campbell coin?

Anything was gonna be an improvement from where we were at that time.

I figured Campbell would have success, but as the above pointed out, I was skeptical that he was bringing his entire staff pretty much from Toledo

I agree with the it cant be worse then Rhodes, I was tired of the emotional cheerleader shtick. That and I knew we couldnt out talent other teams so doing exactly what they were doing for offense but with way lower level athletes was never going to work.

I don't remember. Pretty sure it was indifference. I was at the point where anyone was going to have to prove it before I was ever going to believe anything great was going to happen with ISU football. He's got me believing now for sure.

I liked the hire. But, I do remember when he brought along a lot of the Toledo staff, I was a little skeptical about that. I was wrong.

I dont remember my initial reaction, but i think this particular concern was immediately addressed when we saw them releasing pictures of the coaching team in their war room managing recruiting. Hitting the ground running from day 1 with a cohesive staff is a big part of how we've turned things around so quickly.

Stream of consciousnesses, something like this...

"The guy from Toledo? The one who beat us in overtime earlier this season? Well, that's kind of awkward. Seems like an up-and-comer running a good program, but one that was pretty good before he became the head coach. The guy before him, Beckman or something, was good at Toledo but sucked at Illinois, but then again, everybody sucks at Illinois. Not that ISU has a much more distinguished history. Seems a good choice of the available options and probably more realistic than a Scott Frost or the like, so we will see what the guy can do, I guess. Thank goodness Pollard did not go for anything gimmicky like PJ Fleck or something."
