Congrats to Jiri Hubalek for a career high day! He scored 19 points and had 11 rebound. I know I've been a tough critic in the past, but I will give credit where credit is due. Solid game, Jiri.

And, guess how he did it folks?! Playing like a big man should--in the paint! Maybe he does read this board...

yeah, i think one of the TV guys put it best when they said that Jiri figured out what the coach expected out of him to help the team -- and that is to post up down low, and it showed how it works today.

great game for jiri, let's hope that level of play continues into conference season.

Anderson or Splitorff said, "I think his coach had a talk with him before this game" or something to that effect. Yeah, I'm sure this is the first time he's told Jiri to post up and not jack up 8 threes. At least he seemed to listen today!

He had far inferior defensive opposition. Against the Big 12, he will never find success on the inside like that unfortunatley because he doesn't have the muscle. This will lead him to get frustrated and do all the irritating things we get on him for..

Nevertheless....good job by him staying inside...except for the last wild 3pt shot at the end.

Holy Smokes are you kidding me?? Jiri played to position of which we need him to play??? Hopefully he will stay playing there because that is where we need him to be. I have been one of his critics too, but would love to jump on the Jiri bandwagon when(if) he proves us wrong.

Maybe it is his New Years resolution???

Yeah, he played liked a big man should, congratulations. He needs to soften up that shot though, the 1st half he kept brickin' it.
He got better in the 2nd half. Also get rid of that scoop shot, just take it up strong or hook it. Overall nice job.

Take a look at North Dakota State's schedule and results so far this year and tell me just how "inferior" this team really is.

I'll take this as progress regardless of the level of competition. He needs to start somewhere.

While the NDSU might be a good team, the post gaurding Jiri was playing poor defense... I was pleasently suprised by Jiri though. I would be suprised if he has any success in the B12. Hope he proves me wrong...

The point I made was I congratulate Juri on his play, but it still appeared soft to me. He had no one with any size guarding him. I think against the bruisers in the Big 12 he will still have problems. I hope I am wrong.

Neverthless, good job today.

Usually its customary to just take the violation when its that close. If i'm not mistaken the clock would have just kept running and likely run out before they even touched the ball again.

Gotta give props to Jiri today. I don't care who it is against, it's about time he started playing in the paint like that. I just hope he keeps up the effort in Big 12 play.

Was surprised Corey Johnson did not even get a minute in the 2nd half to give Jiri a breather. That kid has played so well lately thought he at least deserved a few more minutes today.

Coach GMac was asked about this on the post game. He stated that as long as NDSU didn't come up with an answer to handled Jiri, Cory was only going to come in if Jiri got tired.

It's too bad Jiri's minutes came at the expense of Cory, who played strong early, but Jiri needed a good confidence builder heading into conference. I'm not sure the second half would have gone as well for us, had Jiri not had a career day. Hopefully this is a turning point for the big guy-- we need him against the Big 12.

The last 2 games...Jiri has played better. I think him seeing very few minutes against OSU's Oden finally got to him.

Last weekend, he didn't see much time because SEMS went small on us - but he looked good.

Tonight, he looked good too. And I'm not referring to his points...but more about his solid defense and good rebounding. He looked like the Jiri I saw early last season.

I, too, have been really down on Jiri, but he looked downright coachable today, and that is all I have asked to see. Even if NDSU is not KU, good things happen when there is some semblance of post play. (Especially when the norm has been having our two 6-10 guys chucking it up from three!)

Customary to take a shot clock violation? Why would you not want to try to make a basket?

Jiri looked good today. He stuck with it after missing a couple of close shots early. He was aggressive on both ends of the floor today and even dove on the floor once or twice. He's been so out of sync for so long. McDermott is going to make him into a much better player.

Speaking of McDermott, it's just a pleasure to watch him during the game. He's active and coaching and instructing and correcting every chance he gets. He's not sitting there passively without a clue or screaming at the players. He get his point across and then gives them a pat on the back. In other words, he looks and sounds like a guy anybody would want to play for.
