OK State allegations

Seriously, why do people make allegations to SI but won't cooperate with the NCAA? Seems like this should be grounds for libel.

To me, the solution is simple. The federal government needs to pass a law making it illegal to offer benefits to amateur athletes. That essentially would give the NCAA subpoena powers to compel testimony from those who otherwise wouldn't cooperate.

I don't think it would be wise to make the NCAA a government body, thank you anyway.

So it's true that:
In an eight-year span, five football players tested positive for a banned substance but were permitted to play without first going through the required disciplinary actions mandated by the school's drug testing policy

But they're confident that:
There was no pattern of more talented student-athletes being exempted from the drug testing program or its penalties.

And we know that:
Orange Pride, a group of female students, served as hosts during prospective students' official and unofficial visits in an eight-year span

But we're sure that:
No member of OSU's Orange Pride student support group was involved in, or encouraged to engage in, sexual activities with prospects

There was no credible evidence that members of the coaching staff were arranging sexual activities for recruits.

And this is all based on a review of emails and interviews? So you're all telling me there's smoke but no fire? Maybe somebody not hired by OkSU with ties to the NCAA should be brought in to investigate this.

Maybe oSu (T. Boone) should bring a libel case against SI.

That's probably the last thing OkSU and Boone are going to do. If they bring a lawsuit, the defense (SI) can legally subpoena witnesses and compel them to testify under oath. The NCAA can't do this, which is why the NCAA is a joke as far as investigating corruption and enforcing their own regulations. Those folks who chose not to talk to the NCAA won't be able to decline once they receive a subpoena.

But then again, OkSU squandered away $250 million by investing in a hedge fund, so who knows.

I think the NCAA investigators take the Jimbo Fisher approach...

"Hey, did you break any rules?"

"Nope."

"Well I believe you. Investigation over, let's move on."
