So there was reason for hope at the end of last year. An offense that was above league average for the first time in years, a defense that finally had some legimately above average defensive players, and young talent across the board.
Now we are looking at Bruce Chen as our opening day starter, Luis Menblowza in the starting rotation over Felipe Paulino and/or Danny Duffy, Giavotella in Omaha and Getz starting at 2B because he apparently discovered the ability to hit the ball out of the infield over the winter, and Yuniesky Betancourt looking at 400+ ABs and who knows how much time at 3B once Moustakas gets off to that inevitable cold start. Plus, Soria is out for the year, and our young catcher we just signed long term is out with a knee injury.
If we face a lefty on opening day, we could easily be fielding a lineup with 3 sub .300 OBP guys in Quintero, Betancourt, and Escobar (the only one with any upside), and another sub .600 OPS guy in Getz.
We may actually be worse than the Twins this year. Hosmer, save us.
