***Official Press Conference Thread***

I don't have a direct line to the president so you will have to ask him.

Sorry I didn't include the link but it's there now.
Perhaps in the absence of the POTUS, you can relay the appropriate response.

They did, he said from next year on we are playing without one. He said either a 0-4-7 or a 0-6-5 depending on the opposing offense.
I thought he said since a lot of teams are moving to spread offenses, we are just going with a 0-1-10? hmm.. sounds tactical. I like it!

He said the numbers for how many of each position the staff wants on the team are right near where they want them to be. He also said that they go through those numbers systematically and don't just pick numbers out of a hat. Go figure.

Announcing class of 22 today, but it could change by one within the next 24 hours (Lynn). Am I missing something here, or is one that we don't know about signed?

I'm pretty sure this class counts Nick Kron who greyshirted this fall. That's what it sounded like to me.

I guess Rhoads is happy with 6 scholarship DT's?

He also said they recruited every single position on both sides of the ball in this class, even though we have no DT commits? And he specifically stated that everyone is going to start out at the positions they are listed at. So that does not jive at all.

Rhoads seemed a bit edgy to me. I think he was also hoping for a few signing day commits to come our way. He didn't seem real happy. He put his best spin on it, but he just didn't seem like the normal Paul Rhoads to me?

Yeah, this reminds me, he began this statement by saying some people freak out about the number of players here or there (rough paraphrase), which, to me, was directed precisely at those fans who are worried sick about the lack of interior DLs in this class.

This concerns me as well.

Yeah I picked up the edge as well. Hard to say.

I fully expect our D-line to dominate in the coming years then.

I detected none of this. None. I might be wrong. You might be wrong. How are we to know?

Yep. But obviously the coaches wanted some immediate help on the interior DL as well, based on the fact that we were actively recruiting several JC DL.

Next year's class will be key.

Yesterday, Austen said (if I heard him correctly on the podcast) that next year's defense will be one of the better units in the Big 12. I think that's what he said; his voice was a bit muffled.

I think CPR is just a very intense guy who's just had a very intense day, and I wouldn't read anything into it. The big thing is we had no negative surprises, and I'm very happy about that.

I think its safe to say ISU's 2012 focus will be on defense, defense, and more defense. That is exactly what I took from his attitude at the presser and I think there is a great disappointment with Grady's decision. The staff invested so much time and effort in his recruitment. The defensive staff will earn their stripes in spring camp.
