Official Post-Game Thread - ISU vs. SDSU

What is everyone's thoughts on the "no huddle/ break to get the call after setting at the line of scrimmage offense?"

I can't make up my mind. Good because you see the defense and then get to make the call. You could also catch the d napping if you do pull the quick snap.

I think the negatives could be potential for more confusion of play calling. Particularly for o-line. Could lead to more false starts etc
 
Other than it looking really odd with everyone looking back to the sidelines, I kind of liked it. It could lead to false starts I suppose, but, we didn't have any last night, and of all nights, the first one would be the most likely. If it works, keep it, I say.

I think it's great. Don't give the defense any time to rest, but still more controlled than a traditional no-huddle offense. And the o-line apparently had no problems with it.

It's hear to stay. Almost everyone in the country is doing it. The ability to check the defense live in person to make the right play call is priceless compared to "blindly" calling plays in the huddle when you only know which defensive personnel is in.

I loved the "check with me" as well. IT seems like a lot of people dont' know what it is all about. Perhaps you should study some football. For those of us who have played before, we know all about it.

People giving lots of props to SDSU fans repping. I agree to an extent. You have to understand it's the biggest game in their schools history and there are SDSU alums living in Iowa. You can't say that about CU when they come or other conference schools when they come in town.

That said, I expect a lot of improvement for Kent State, but was happy to see the ball moving.

I like AA in QB better as he seems to be more of a leader while Bates is more of a game changer. I would like to see Bates in the red zone offense with AA managing the team down the field.
 
A couple thoughts of mine:

I was really happy for Jason Harris on that long run. He's had a strange 4 year journey here, but it was good to see him perform when the lights were on.

On the infamous fumble, it was good to see (I think) Cameron Bell not give up the entire play. He chased him hard the entire length of the field and did not let up.

The D seemed to be going for the kill-shot and not wrapping up.

Many of those true freshmen looked very impressive. I hope they can keep it up when the competition gets tougher.
 
my thoughts:

The TOs stunk. A buddy and I were joking about who ISU was going to put back to fumble the punt and then they actually do it.:sad:

Running game was disappointing from the standpoint of, once again, when the Clones needed to get 1 or 2 yard to get a 1st down, they failed. A big 12 team should be able to run right at SDSU and pick up those first downs, period.

Give Jason Harris some props for running hard when he was in there. The 70 yarder was great, we all knew he had wheels, but he had a couple of other runs when he got what he could.

Tackling? Well, good and bad. There were some great hits out there. The SDSU QB has to be hurting big time today! There were also some whiffs, missed tackles, guys getting overpowered, and some plays where the tackler was going for a big hit and didn't bother to wrap up and actually make the tackle. The guys, for the most part, were in the right place to make a play, and that is a vast improvement over some of Mac's teams.

Pass coverage was decent, but you could tell that the Jackrabbits didn't want to go down field. The coaches did a great job of getting the team ready for the dink passes. Too bad they didn't have the team that ready for UNI last year. The D as a whole had a couple of lapses during the game.

Kicking-Well it was okay, which for ISU is a major improvement. It would still be nice to have that guy that can just blast one into the endzone, but those guys are going to be harder to find when they keep moving the kickoff spot back.

I didn't care for a couple of the PFs, playing aggressive is one thing, smacking somebody after the play is another.

DL play was not great. The big guys got sealed pretty bad a couple times later in the game. Not sure if it was the starters or the backup at that point, but in either case, lots of room for improvement.
 
When Mcdowell fumbled his first punt return, I was very disappointed; but he ended up having a decent night returning kicks.
 
LOL, going to break, Arnaud comes to Chizik after the extra point on the first TD, Chizik winks at him and they embrace hands.

Looked like guy love.

Watching college football all weekend, it is rare that college kickers "blast one into the endzone" anymore since the ball got moved back to the 30. Mahoney's kickoffs averaged between the 3 and 4 yardline with over 4.0 hangtime. I think I read last year Shaggy averaged 56 yards per kickoff which puts the ball around the 15 yardline. Thats a 10 yard improvement frorm last year and you still complain? The kid is a freshman and is only going to get better. Did you notice when he kicked it to the goalline and then got pushed back 5 because of a penalty and still managed to get it to the goalline? What about that time when he made 3 field goals look routine (as they should have been). But nevermind, the kicking was ok.

He had a great night. No doubt about it. Would have never guessed he would do that looking at the kid. His legs look smaller than mine and my wife says I have bird legs.

Hope he keeps it up.
