If Foster is ever listed as a #1 for Iowa State, it will not be a good sign for the OL. He somehow was a 4 star recruit, but his offer list tells the story, particularly given he continuously camped at Iowa, begged for an offer and was a legacy. We have recruited guys much better than him since.

He was at a camp I did between his junior and senior year and was shocked he was getting D1 looks, much less getting ranked by services.

So what're we looking at for a line next year? Most of these guys have still barely seen the field but they're the ones I feel like i've heard the most about. Getting Hudson in there to grate some roads would be excellent.

Hudson is, was and will be a guard.

Right now I’d say Ramos and Treiber at the tackles, but which is which is a different story.

Downing and either Hudson or Jared Hufford at guard.

Newell at center for the anchor.

Of course, this is just a best guess right now. Spring ball should be illuminating.

Pretty sure that people said the same thing about JGJ and Meeker. Before this season—and at times during the season.

Yes... the offensive line has finally put it together. But next year we lose 4 of the starters.

I like some of the young guys, but as we have seen it takes time to develop. The recent classes have produced a lot of talent, depth at most positions. But offensive line could be very young next year... I think we will need a JC / Grad Transfer or we will need Foster to step up.

Numbers:
- 6 are on the latest 2 deep with eligibility in 2020
- 5 recruits from 2016-17 classes have left the team
- If no transfers, likely will have at least 2 Fr/So starters

I really like some of the young guys from the 2018 and 2019 classes, and some of the commits this year. But I think it will take a year or two to develop them. Could have some growing pains next year.

Would love it if Newell could move to Tackle (played OT in HS) and maybe slide Treiber in at C if he is ready as a R-Fr or put Schweiger there. Then you could play Ramos at the other OT and Downing & Hudson at the G spots... but not sure if Newell, Ramos are ready/able to play OT. It will be an interesting off season for the OL for sure.

Newell will be an anchor at C for two more seasons and we have players on the roster better suited for tackle.

That 16-17 class of OL was not a good one, and it probably only hurt potential depth that those guys left. It appears that there are at least a few younger guys that have the physicality to play, which has not always been the case in the past. The current line is pretty good, but there were a lot of growing pains along the way. Knipfel was a huge pick up for the OL.

I agree, they probably need to really look hard at the JC and transfer market for a tackle or maybe even 2.

It looks like the coaching staff has finally sort of righted the ship as far as the OL is concerned, even though there may be a few rough patches at the start of next year. There are currently 22 OL on the roster. Some of those guys are walkons, but you never know how guys will develop, especially on the OL.

Foster's father works for one of the recruit promotion agencies. Two years ago he called us regarding my son. He spoke extensively about his son and his recruitment. I can't say for certain he actually was Foster's father but at the time it seemed to be factual simply because it would of been a strange lie.

I think we need to look into moving Newell to tackle. I know that center makes a lot of calls but we seem to have a lot of lineman that are better suited for the interior and Newell seems to have the frame for tackle. The bad part is we would have a new lineman at center making the line calls.

Campbell is going to take it to the next level next year. In the interest of getting the best 11 on the field he is switching to a 4 down linemen front with 3 TEs. TEs will motion constantly so the D is constantly having to calculate who is eligible and who isn't.

Center is a spot you can break in a young guy (both Newell and JGJ started at Center as R-Fr). Generally, I believe the OT spots are more difficult for underclassmen to step into. However, if we have two guys ready to go for next year... that is great. But, I don't know who they are and we definitely have not seen proven depth in the games played (would not want the Foster we have seen starting next year for example; but he could be a better player next year... maybe? I hope?). It could be the next starter is not on the roster. But if you are talking about R-Fr/So who has not yet played, it would likely be better to have them at C than OT.

If Newell can't move to T/G than keep him at C where he has been playing well. But if he is able to move, you are likely better with him at G/T than you are with a younger / less experienced guy.

The O-line will be the difference between ISU have a 9 or 10 win season next year, or a repeat of this year. We return the entire backfield, most of the WR and TE's. The defense also has a lot of proven talent returning.
We need to find a JC tackle or even two to push the O-line to get improve.
Do that, and next year, will be the year we all thought this year would be.

JGJ actually played RT as a freshman, and center as a sophomore.

I get your point, but I also think this staff values experience at the center position.
