I'll get it started. I recently watched a couple of British series that I loved, I suggest you check them out.

Survivors - watch it on Netflix.

It's about a flu pandemic that kills 99% or more of the worlds population and what happens next to the survivors. It's kinda like "the Walking Dead" without the zombies.

Misfits - watch it on Hulu.

It's about a group of not so well adjusted 20-somethings that are doing community service and get "super powers" in a freak storm. It's kinda like "Heroes" only not so "end of the world" serious and very funny.

Sherlock - watch it on Netflix.

It's a modern day adaptation of "Sherlock Holmes". Just a good crime drama and a slightly funny.

Please throw out some suggestions if you have any.

Portlandia - on Netflix
Not the biggest Fred Armisten fan on SNL, but this is pretty funny. I think I like it mostly because they make fun of hipsters, yuppies, libs, etc.

A bit less off the beaten path than some that've been mentioned so far, but these are a couple lesser-seen ones.

Alphas- kind of a spin on the x-men idea
Chuck- not many seem to have watched it, its worth a watch if you havent. a unique sort of action-comedy. Chevy Chase and Timothy Dalton both have some great roles in the seasons theyre in.

Misfits is a great show. Spy on Hulu is pretty good, so was the one season of Whites.

Downton Abbey- season 1 on netflix, only two seasons right now, 8 ep. per season, really, really good stuff- easiest masterpiece theater show to watch that I have seen in sometime, but I guess it isnt really off the beaten path.

Freaks and Geeks is a great show that ran for only one season. The cast has a half-dozen big names in it, many of them had a big start on the show. I loved it.

Emergency! on netflix

Good stuff - early 1970's paramedic show that isn't too bad, other than being odd in how they are dispatched. Well, that and they don't appear to have met a red light that they don't run.

The entire Stargate saga. Got through SG-1, am more than halfway through Atlantis, and I have Universe yet to go.

Spaced -Watch on Netflix. British comedy starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost from Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz fame. Hilarious show, unfortunately only two seasons of it but the episode where Simon Pegg plays too much Resident Evil 2 and starts hallucinating everyone as zombies is great.

I'm just about done with Firefly right now, good sci-fi show. It's nice because it didn't last more than a season so you're not out a ton of time. Great cast on the show.

I watched it when it was on, and have the DVD series - great show, a Judd Apatow creation. Also check out "Undeclared," which was his second series (that unfortunately only lasted a season). Also a killer cast.

this. Spaced is a great show. I always thought the weird sexual tension between Brian and Marsha was hilarious. Also, don't forget Edgar Wright. He directed Spaced and went on to write/direct Shaun of the Dead/Hot Fuzz/Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. The guy has a really unique style, and is an incredibly talented director.

I would totally recommend this series to anyone who likes the Simon Pegg/Nick Frost movies.

The Mrs. and I are one episode away from finishing Season 1 - this is a great show. Has a "Sopranos"-style storytelling: the main character balances being a Father while trying to keep his estate intact; meanwhile the servants are plotting behind the scenes, his 3 daughters are causing all sorts of problems for the family, and his Mother (played by Maggie Smith) is trying to manipulate behind the scenes.

Another show I would recommend is Twin Peaks. It holds up surprisingly well for being 20 years old - a whodunit mystery with fantasy elements involved and a town full of eccentric characters. Special Agent Dale Cooper may be one of the greatest TV characters of all-time.

I really liked The Inbetweeners. It was a BBC creation. I believe you can still watch it on BBC America, but I "acquired" it by other means. The movie that takes place after the series is really good too. It's about 4 socially awkward boys in high school (or whatever it's called in England). Really raunchy at times, but incredibly funny.

I'll also throw out The Venture Brothers from Adult Swim. Many people might have heard of them, but they're still pretty under the radar. Absolutely fantastic writing. The kind of show where you have to watch each episode 2-3 times to get all the jokes and references. One of my favorite shows of the last 10 years.
