Off duty pilot tried to stop plane engines

Guessing you would hear that kind of commotion. The jump seat is often visible from coach.

The boyfriend, Alex Wood, was in Seat 1A -- right up front by the pilots. His girlfriend Aubrey Gavello was at the back of the plane.

"Just happy to be home, happy to be safe and I'm happy they handled it really well," said Wood.

He and Gavello were returning home from a friend's wedding when police say an off-duty pilot inside the cockpit attempted to disable the aircraft engines.
Neither Wood nor Gavello ever saw or heard any commotion.
Suzanne Phan: "Did you hear anything at all that raised red flags?
Gavello: Nothing. Nothing until the flight attendant's announcement, 'we have a situation. We need to prepare for a landing'," said Gavello.

Well then

I’m guessing pilots aren’t suppose to be consuming any federally illegal drugs. Hell of a trip both literally and figuratively.

Mental health is a major issue in this country.

Thought I'd heard that commercial pilots undergo psych evals on a regular basis. Obviously can't catch everything, but I assume it helps with how uncommon these situations are.

Not any more. Not since they hardened and locked the cockpit doors after 9/11.

Maybe you could see it if you looked in as you were boarding or on the rare occasion one of the pilots has to leave the flight deck, I suppose.

The FAA and it's asinine archaic medical certification process 100% played a role in this. I guaran damn tee that he was afraid of reporting anything and thus losing his medical and his job/livelihood that he has spent decades on and may not have any real transferable skills. The FAAs stance on mental health is embarrassing.
