Obama's Visit

Just walked to campus at 730. Pretty neat site. Ames PD every 50 feet or so, security being prepped for entrance. Big machines and buses blocking lots of space. Line of a hundred or more on Morrill drive. Pretty cool event, regardless of party. Wish these things happened when I was in school.

Wife and I are about to head over there. Not all that excited to stand there for an hour to get in and then 2.5 hours before he talks but we think it's worth it to actually be able to see him compared to standing god knows how far away and just see some black guy on a stage.

I will be on campus soon and will have to check this out! I would like to see Obama speak too but I didn't care to wait a long time to get a ticket. Here's to hoping there is a way I can walk up when the time comes (not holding my breath on it)

Wow.....crazy to hear all the happenings. My brother had to ask secret service permission just to get to his bike.


I'm glad I saw him speak on central campus when he was a candidate and we could just lay out on the lawn with no tickets....very laid back compared to now.

Yes, I remember going too. It was still a zoo because there was SO many people that showed up, but the preparations were nothing like what it sounds like today.

I just talked with a friend who is helping organizing the event, and the Secret Service hasn't told them a definitive start time yet.

Heard Security is really making things difficult to get to class even, to quote one of my friends " If u haven't figured it out us people walking are going to class not trying to see the president, we didn't go get a free ticket to see him so we clearly have more important things to do so get off ur high horse."

Well he held a press conference quickly on TS Isaac at about 9:10 CDT in Washington DC. Then travel to Des Moines/Ames. Scheduled start is at 1:05pm CDT. (seems like a narrow travel window to me, but then again he's the president and doesn't have to wait in traffic anywhere he goes!)
