"Northwestern hoops seek United Center date".. Why not Iowa State?

We already play one bad team the Big 10, don't know if we need another one...

Im assuming ISU's schedule is complete by now, as is every other programs in the Country. A little to late to be looking for this game...

It appears from the article that they're talking about the 2014 season.

Yes. That was awful. I was there. We also lost to Northwestern earlier that year in Chicago.

But, It's a new era.

Exactly what I was thinking of. Nw was the harbinger of things to come.

If we're going to start a boarder war with the state of Illinois, might as well make it the U of Illinois at Champaign. Basketball tradition doesn't get any weaker once you've found NW, and would do next to nothing for ISU. You don't think kids in Chicago realize Northwestern is absolutely horrid at basketball? Why would they be "impressed" by an superior ISU team coming into town and beating the 'cats?

Given a very small sample, I would say we don't want to draw NW fans to CF.:biglaugh:

Whatever helps you sleep at night :)

With that being said, I don't think ISU really wants/needs to play Northwestern. They are the definition of lose-lose. Win, you should have, lose, and it likely hurts the RPI. There's no reason ISU couldn't get a more marquee game - against an Illinois or other decent midwest team to play in the UC.

Notwithstanding last year's heartbreaking loss to UIC, Northwestern is the top brand in Chicagoland college basketball. At least for now. DePaul could make some noise if they get their arena in Lincoln Park and a greasy coach, though. I was sad to see Carmody go, but I think Collins will be quite a step up and he should get the program back on track after a rough 2012-2013 season.

A win for Iowa State would really help recruiting in Chicago, but you would probably be better off playing Illinois. They have a lot of "fans" (as in people who didn't go there and have no affiliation with the school other than cheering for the basketball team when they are good) when basketball season starts and so I think beating them would give you more exposure than beating Northwestern.

Being a Northwestern fan, do you even know what the NCAA tournament is? Serious question.

I was trying to substantively respond to a post wherein I agreed that Iowa State should play Illinois if it wants to improve its visibility in Chicagoland. The NCAA selection committee's bias against Northwestern in favor of some terrible mid-majors following the 2011-2012 season was pretty heartbreaking, but it has no bearing on the subject matter of this discussion.
