Saw short clip of this on ESPN and looked up the full contest.

Pretty huge names like Bonds, Griffey Jr, Irvin, Carter, Deion Sanders...

Mike Conley Sr is truly legit epic level dunker, I doubt his kid who is actually in the NBA can dunk like that. Michael Irvin pretty insane too.

When was the last time NBA stars regularly took part in the dunk contest?

Somewhere it became a thing for rookies and bench players. I get why an aging Jordan or Dr J may have passed but in their prime they were trying to win it.

Honestly Deonte is the kind of player it's for now. He dunks as well as anybody and it can earn him $$$ and name recognition. The stars don't want to risk losing to a guy like that anymore but they'll say it's about injury risk.

ISU actually has some good candidates when you think of Burton for the dunk contest and Matt and Georges for the 3 point contest. Matt's quick release would be lethal but Georges was in top 10 for % much of the year too.

Junior only has 15 dunks in his career. Don’t think he got all of his father’s athleticism. He also hasn’t gotten a single technical in his career, which is crazy.

Got a kick out of Derrick Thomas’s flat tire around 21:40.

I remember when these would air, it was at half time of games in the playoff games I think. Pretty sure I've got a set of collectors cards from this event.

It's a travesty that we'll never see LeBron James in the dunk contest.

Jordan Kilganon. Stumbled on a youtube video he was in a few years ago.
He is a proffessional dunker, as he participates in dunk contests for a living, but he is not in the NBA.
