Anyone starting to think that C.C. Sabathia might win the NL Cy young this year? Has that ever been done before to win the AL then next year win the NL?

In four starts with Milwaukee, Sabathia is 4-0 with a 1.36 era and 3 CG. The problem is he also went 6-8 with a 3.83 era for Cleveland, which isn't bad considering the team but hardly Cy Young worthy. How much will his Cleveland numbers factor into voting? If you only count his Milwaukee numbers, do you penalize him for only playing half a season with them? None of that may matter if he keeps pitching like he has and Milwaukee wins the division.

Rick Sutcliff might be a good comparison. He won the Cy Young in 1984 after going 4-5 with a 5.15 era with Cleveland, but 16-1 with a 2.69 era for the division-winning Cubs.

I think he's going to have to have an amazing second half to win the Cy Young. He is well on his way, but for the writers to give him the award, he'd have to just blow everyone away for the entire second half. It's interesting to think, though that guys who have an awesome first half but struggle during the second aren't considered for awards, but guys who do the opposite always are.

If he propels the Brewers to the playoffs nearly single-handed, then he would get my vote. I'd say he needs to get 12+ wins and an ERA below 2.00 to get serious consideration.

We will see how he does on Monday....

get over yourself cub fans...your offense is offensive on the road, plus you are terrible against lefties..

that is going to be one hell of a series to watch throw, the Brewers through Sabathia, sheets, Parra and probably bush in that series.

Tough one, the voting could be all over the place because some might think you need to pitch in the NL the full season to get the NL award and instead might vote for Webb or Volquez but the guy I think really deserves it right now is Lincecum who somehow is 11-3 with a 2.79 ERA while his team is 14th in the NL in runs scored. On a good team he'd probably have at least a couple more wins right now.

Let's look at it like this:

Overall he's 10-8 with 3.30 ERA. He has 154Ks, and only 42 BB in 155.3 Innings Pitched and a 1.15 WHIP.

Currently leads baseball in strikeouts, is 2nd in Complete Games. Also, from June 5th until now, he's cut his ERA from 4.81 to 3.30. His ERA over that span is 1.93...

I agree that if he keeps pitching at the 2-3 ERA level for the rest of the season and the Brewers make the playoffs, he could win it.

in 2006, Webb won it with 16 wins and a 3.10 ERA. I think Sabathia could hit that level and lead the league in Ks.

In a way Lincecum probably deserves it if he keeps this up, but if you can finish the season strong and get credit for leading your team to the playoffs, then I think voters go more towards that.

The cubs will throw Lilly, Zambrano, Harden, and Dempster.

I love when people make ignorant statements without looking at stats.

The cubs vs. LHP

BA - .283
OBP - .361
SLG - .427
OPS - .787
Runs - 139 (6th in NL)

Those are far from terrible.

That my friend, is not possible.

Gooooooo Brew Crew!! This should be a fun series to watch!

First of all, the Cubs are hitting .280 against lefties with a .353 OBP and .444 slugging. They are hitting .277 against righties with a .361 OBP and .427 slugging. Im curious to where you get your facts, but I would say they are not anywhere near terrible against lefties or righties.

and the Cubs will through (throw) Lilly, Zambrano, Dempster, and Hardin.

Cubs batters vs Sabathia

Soriano - .320 BA .452 OBP 1.132 OPS
Johnson - .381 BA .364 OBP .983 OPS
Ramirez - .429 BA .500 OBP .929 OPS
Blanco - .400 BA .571 OBP .971 OPS

I'll take those matchups any day!

Lincecum
Volquez
Kyle Lohse

All should be mentioned in the NL Cy Young Race. I doubt C.C. will get it unless every start the rest of the year goes the way his first three did. You would have to have a very dominating performance in the second half to win.

While Lohse is having a good year, he is no Lincecum or Volquez. Those guys lead the discussion by far. My vote goes to Lincecum. He is just filthy nasty.

The difference between Lohse and the other two is his team has a chance to make the playoffs, so coming down the stretch, big pitching performances from him could help his chances.

in 2006, Webb won it with 16 wins and a 3.10 ERA. I think Sabathia could hit that level and lead the league in Ks.

2006 was a really weak year for the NL Cy Young. 16 wins led the league. Most years 16 wins with a 3.10 ERA won't win a Cy Young. I don't think Ks have a lot to do with Cy Young voting either. Webb was 10th in NL Ks in 2006.

Depends on how those K's come. If your Aaron Harang striking out guys but giving up 10 runs a game it won't help. But if it came down to two guys with similar numbers and one of the guys had twice the K's in might come into play.

I'm sorry cubs fans for not doing my due diligence in research. I had just watched the cubs get owned by Randy Johnson and Wandy Rodriguez.

It must have just been those two games. I apoligize. I should realize that the Cubs are the greatest thing to happen to the midwest since the invention of the wide mouth beer can.

I am still looking forward to the Cubs Brewers series. If it is anything like (and I mean good games) the Cards Brewers, it should be intertaining. Dempster-Parra could be a good match up to watch for a couple years.

Do you really think the cardinals have a chance? This past series with the brewers is the beginning of the end of the cardinals season.

Their bullpen is AWESOME!!!

Randy Johnson has always owned the cubs (13-0 in his career). Maybe if you watch more than two baseball games a year you could actually make a legitimate claim about the cubs. The cubs faced a LHP last night and scored 6 runs in 6 innings. That's pretty damn good if you ask me.
