NFL: Niners grab Westbrook

On a side note, I think this drops Frank Gore to a 3rd or 4th round fantasy back. This team has too many weapons for him to be a top flight fantasy running back.

From a 49er point of view this is a great pick-up. He will be a great 3rd down back that can catch out of the back field.

Wow I must have missed that Glen Coffee retirement news. He just up and quit for no reason? Or has any more come to light about that?

Kind of weird to me. They've got Gore, then Robinson, who has been a solid backup, and that Davis kid from Wisconsin had a good first preseason game.

As a huge 9er fan, this is awesome! Really needed this! Robinson is NOT a solid backup at all. He is a great special teams player, though. He has already been passed by Anthony Dixon, the rookie. And we don't have a Davis for a running back. It's Gore, Westbrook, Dixon, Robinson.

Isn't Dixon a complete beast? Seems like a good fit for their style but I like the Westbrook pickup for the 9ers.. He will be a good 3rd down/recieving option that they don't seem to have right now. San Fran has had a really really good offseason IMO

They sign a back up running back, and you think that the 5th or 6th best fantasy back drops 2 rounds. Wow. I wish you were in my money fantasy league because you obviously have no clue.

Dixon, Davis, whatever, you obviously knew who I was talking about, especially since I said "the kid from Wisconsin".

It sounds bad, but I generally don't pay attention to preseason, because half the players won't be on the 53 man roster anyway. I'm not saying it's a bad pickup, just seemed like a position that they didn't really need to address as much as others.

Dixon IS a beast!!! He will be pretty good and will eventually take over for Gore IMO. They just needed some insurance since they are the favorite in the West and could go pretty far this year. As long as Alex shows up.....

Doesn't sound bad at all. I usually dont either, I'm usually just so starved for football I end up watching a little bit. If I do actually pay attention to a preseason game its usually Green Bay's just to see what they have coming up through the ranks for the future.

Also agree with the last part. Probably not a huge need for them especially compared to some other teams depth at RB (Packers )

Seeing as how Anthony Dixon went to Mississippi, it wasn't obvious at all who you were talking about. You had the wrong name and the wrong school. You're thinking of a different guy.

You're thinking of Anthony Davis, the Wisconsin running back who was drafted a couple years ago by Indy, but did not make the team. He is currently out of football.

Good deal for both sides. Here's to hoping the 9ers can make the playoffs for the first time in what feels like forever.

Last year I remember them being in the playoffs was that year with Mooch as coach when they had that massive comeback against the Giants. When was that, 1999? Has it been that long since they've made the playoffs?
