Nice potshot at Ames by Denver Post columnist

I ate a bucket of mussels with a glass of Australian sauvignon blanc while gazing at fishing boats. Try doing that in Ames, Iowa.
Seriously. Where is the ******* harbor in Ames, Iowa? We are a small town in an agriculture state. We make do with what we have. How does that make us intrinsically better or worse than an East Coast city? You can't compare things that are existentially different.

We need to start winning at high-visibility athletics to get people to pick on some other unsuccessful college town.

Ames has Long John Silvers, and they used to server beer (not sure if they do anymore) - close enough! :jimlad:

here's another equally bad article by Henderson... I think "miracle" is a bit overboard, wouldn't you say? I mean seriously, it's not like Auburn was a downtrodden abyss of college football.. didn't they go undefeated a few years ago? They have tradition and insane support... not exactly "miracle" material. If he had ISU 5-0 this year, perhaps that would warrant the word.

I just read this in the print edition... although it doesn't say it here, the headline in the paper referred to Annapolis as the "Anti-Ames"

flood his inbox everyone. Demand respect!

Unfortunately, John rarely gets to Ames outside of the CU-ISU game which is normally in November and the weather is not the best or in the winter for the basketball games.

To call Ames disgusting is ridiculous.

who cares what this guy thinks. doesnt the water flow the other direction in Denver? who would want to live there?

So there's harbors in Austin, Columbus, Madison, and Boulder?

Annapolis is a very cool town. Naval Academy, the former US Capitol, the capitol of Maryland. It's steeped in history.

But this is a snippet of why I hate CU/Boulder/Denver-what-area-code-is-your-suburb-in-so-I-may-guesstimate-how-big-your-mortgage-is types. I lived there for 10 years, and can only handle the smuggery in doses the size of an ISU away football game. This guy's ego wouldn't fit in to the parking lots north of Jack Trice.

I'll take some of Iowa's own La Quercia "lunch meat" sandwiches and a Bell's Oberon mini-keg outside the Jack any day over Boulder.

Wonder what our AD thinks of Ames.......given his propensity for the away home game.....

I bet Jamie hates Manhattan more than he loves Ames. That explains why he was willing to give up the game in Ames this year in order to avoid going to Manhattan next year.

And think of all the Basketball games in Chicago this year. 3 vs the 1 FB game in KC. He must really not like KC that much either.

If he comes to Ames to cover the game in November, somebody should send a couple of lunch meat sandwiches and a mug of beer to his press box seat...

OK, changing topic: Are you serious when you says Long John Silvers used to serve beer? Because I've sworn to my friends that that was the case and they do not believe me! Help a guy out here!
