After seeing Georges on the telecast yesterday, I can't think of another time we've had such a good group of recruits coming in that we didn't need to contribute right away. Every other time we've brought in talented kids for as long as I can remember, people were talking about, e.g., Colvin/Dominique Buckley will be the starting PG next year.

These 3 are among the most talented recruits (non-transfers) the program has signed in the last 5-6 years, and I'm not sure any of them will play more than 15 minutes a game next year. We've just got too much talent scheduled to come back.

This, in my opinion, is one of the surest signs that Freddie has things headed in the right direction.

It's a great sign, and one I hope continues. Nothing like having a year to sit, watch, and mature before being asked to contribute.

I think Niang plays some, but Okoro and SDW only play in blowouts (which we hopefully have a few more than this year), mostly because we have more talent and depth than in the post, not necessarily because they aren't good.

Okoro and SDW (and Long/ Sledge) better be ready in 2013 to step up. Babb, Lucious, McGee, Clyburn will all be gone from the backcourt.

Stongly agree about them not needing to contribute right away. With what we have comming back next year, Almost the entire team minus Allen & Scotty. And Lucious & Clyburn now elgible to play. We hardley need them at all. Who know if Sledge & Long will be ready to contribute by next year also. The following year will be a BIG year for them to contribute.

Re-read it slowly and see if you find a different message. Perhaps your cojones got in the way

Im more excited to see how much Gibson will improve in the offseason. I hate to judge an incoming class before they play a min. At this time last year many thought Sledge would be the starting PG this season.

Is Sledge hurt or what? He didn't get in the game yesterday at all, did he?

I'm really beginning to wonder if he'll ever make an impact at ISU or not? Can anyone shed any light on what the prospects are for him at this point?

They don't need to contribute right away. Christopherson and Allen leaving right away. That's 20+ points/game, but we have other players PLUS Lucious and Clyburn coming in to play next year.

Honestly speaking, if Lucious and Clyburn do their jobs, I see us being even better next year than this.

Anyway, the last time we had this many legit good players coming in that didn't need to contribute right away was probably 2004 or 2005 under Morgan? He recruited quite a few top150 players successfully. Very glad to see it coming back.

He has a pulled groin. lol@everyone speculating with this guy. Anytime he's not on the bench it must mean something! If he wasn't injured and didn't want to be here, he'd still be on the bench. Let's be real now.

As long as Royce comes back, I think there's no doubt that we'll be better next year.

Before anyone else responds to the OP, please read it again carefully.

They don't need to contribute right away. You do realize we only have two players leaving next year because they are no longer eligible right? That would be Christopherson and Allen. Yeah, that's 20+ points/game, but we have other players PLUS Lucious and Clyburn coming in to play next year.

You're the 2nd poster to miss the OP's point.

I think both of you need to re-read the OP. Your "disagreements" are agreeing with what the OP wrote.

I edited my statement before you posted this. Look above. My sunday morning reading comprehension at this point is pretty bad I realized after another poster pointed out re-reading.

Do we have enough schollies for everyone next year?

Royce, Ejim, Babb, McGee, Booker, Clyburn, Lucious, Railey, Sledge, Gibson, Niang, Okoro, Dorsey-Walker, and Naz Long, correct? I assume Bubu will be a walk-on again?

That's 14 schollies, without Bubu. We're only allowed 13. So the staff knows that someone isn't coming back. So it really isn't that dumb to consider the fact that Sledge might not be? Or Railey? Or maybe they already know that Royce is gone?

People keep thinking Sledge wont be here, but he was hanging out with Niang this weekend. Not sure why he would want to do that if he didn't plan on returning next year.

Yeah, that's definitely a good point. I think Royce will stay (if he knows what's best for him. He's not ready for the NBA yet). If I had to "hope" for anyone (wish I didn't), I would think it was Railey. We have White and then Niang coming in who I'm pretty sure Hoiberg said would contribute next year for us (scheduled). Not only that, but we have Gibson playing his same position over him as a freshman (starting earlier even) and Booker will be back.

Railey has not had a good garbage-time minute game this year. Yesterday was fine because he made a shot, but that was it. Sledge has had 2 or 3 good quality 4-5 minute garbage minute games where he actually did stuff. Hoiberg also talked about Sledge in the preseason as kind of special. "Fastest guy with the ball I've ever seen" and what not. I've never heard him praise Railey in any kind of way.

Same thing for Sledge though with Okoro and Long coming in, along with Lucious. You'd have to think though that Sledge after a year in college is still further along than Okoro and Long. If you think about it, there's not much "old" talent that Sledge has to deal with. Lucious and Palo is about it, and Palo isn't really that great of a player IMO (at least now). Sure Okoro and Long could come in and take that away, but he has to know that going into the first practice for next season, he's the 2nd or 3rd guy for PG for sure going into next season.

Maybe that's my wishful thinking because I believe Sledge will be exciting as all hell to watch, but that's my perspective of things.

Are Clyburn and Lucious both one year only guys?

If I had my choice, I too would rather see Railey go... just for the fact that we can't have too many PG's IMO. Lucious is only here for one year I believe, and other than him we only have Long and Bubu at PG.

Railey has given this staff more than enough reasons to get rid of him by his actions off the court too.

But the fact remains... someone has to go. I just hope it's not Royce.

Clyburn and Lucious are both one year guys. Why are you saying you are starting to wonder if Sledge will ever contribute? He hasn't even finished his freshman year for ******'s sake! If anyone thought he was going to be the starting point guard they were delusional. He was clearly a guy who would need to sit a year or two before he'd be ready to see major minutes. Kind of annoying to see people giving up on a guy so early in his career. :realmad:
