NFL draft

Patriots
C-

Wasn't thrilled with an injured dlinemen in first round and a QB in second. I was hoping they would find another playmaker for Brady. Losing Welker and Hernandez in the past couple seasons has hurt. Was glad to see them draft a reliable running back in James White.

Is there a grade better than A+, because that is what we deserve. Our staff really gave 110% and we had the best draft in the history of the NFL last week. We have a quarterback that will win two Super Bowls before he is done here. We also got the best cornerback in the draft. We were already set up to win the division and get to the playoffs, but now a Super Bowl run is not out of the question.

Well, as a Steelers fan - we exited the weekend with Todd Haley still as our O-Coord. So I'd have to say it's a failure.

But we apparently got a LB, a DT, a NG some sort of big receiver and a potential slot. None of which I know anything about - but trust Kevin Colbert.

Actually this first rounder (Shazier) out of tOSU really looks the part - albeit a bit lean for the AFC north. Won't hold the Buckeye thing against him too long I hope.

Little surprised they waited so deep to pick up an OL, given that part of the game has been a glaring weakness since Bradshaw retired (seemingly).

Overall - I don't know. Like I said, trust Colbert, LeBeau is a God, and Haley is still around.

Basically it's ISU with JP, Wally and Messingham.

The Browns did have an awesome draft, but it's gotta be a little bit subdued by the fact that Josh Gordon enjoys smoking weed more than being one of the best receivers in the league.

I'd give the Steelers a B+. They got some huge value with their picks even if they didn't fill their CB need with a higher drafted talent.

Shazier is an upgrade at ILB and has a chance to be truly disruptive. He ran a faster 40 than many of the corners in the draft.

Tuitt was projected as a late 1st round pick and they got him in the second. He fills a huge need at 3-4DE and has the athleticism and versatility to have a huge effect on the D.

Dri Archer might have been a reach in the third, but he was the fastest player in the draft. He might be only a spot time player on offense but he could be a huge asset as a returner and let Antonio Brown concentrate on WR and stay healthy.

Martavis Bryant is 6'4 and ran a great 40. He needs some work on route running but he could be the big receiver that Ben has been asking for.

Shaq Richardson has solid talent for a 5th round CB. They probably should have gotten a CB earlier, but we'll see how he develop.

The picked up OL Wesley Johnson in the 5th as well. The OL had issues last year, but most of that was due to early injuries. They actually started playing much better by the end of the season and I think they have most of the pieces they need there. New OL coach Munchak should have a lot to work with and I want to see what he can do.

LB Jordan Zumwalt in the 6th was a depth pick. Pretty sure he can play inside and out and played in a 3-4 in college.

DT McCullers is just massive. 6'8 350lbs. Literally huge upside.

And a TE project in the 7th.

They also picked up a few UDFAs that some thought they would take in the draft so that helps.

Vikings B+

No real problems, during round 7 I was wanting them to take Skov from Stanford, and to a lesser degree Dixon from Baylor.

49ers - A

Jimmie Ward should be a great nickelback and getting Hyde in the second round was outstanding. They had a ton of picks this year and used most of them very wisely. I love the strategy they've used the past couple of drafts too, by going after players in later rounds with a lot of talent, but will sit out the season due to injury so their draft stock falls. If the player recovers, they get great value out of a pick. If the player doesn't recover adequately, it's only a waste of a 3rd round pick or worse.

And the pick up of Stevie Johnson for a 4th round pick next year was brilliant as well.

No excuses this year, Super Bowl champs or bust!

They were talking about that one draft back in the 70s where the steelers(?) had 5 hall of famers chosen in the first 6 rounds.

Are you being serious?

Broncos did OK. Addressed all areas of needs but wished they hadn't waited til the 5th and 7th rounds to get a linebacker (which I thought was their biggest area of need). I think Roby will be a great corner and if Latimer turns out to be pretty good, they can cut Welker after this season and get his contract off the books.

The Browns dude can't be serious. Since when were they already in playoff contention? And they just lost their best player.

At some point, you will wake up and realize that, as a Browns fan, this moment is all you have. In regards to your team, you literally have nothing else about which you can be proud. So, I am happy for you. You finally have something that gives you some excitement and enthusiasm towards the upcoming season. Soak it in because eventually the football will start. And it will all be gone.

I would give the Giants a "C" - I think they had an average draft. They addressed some needs but seemed to overreach a bit to do so. While there are holes all over the roster, I think the most glaring were on both lines of scrimmage. They had a chance at Aaron Donald at the DL.

Odell Beckham is a good prospect. Team captain at LSU. 4th receiver off the board in the draft. 4.43 in the 40, which was 7th for WR at the combine. Also had good numbers in the other running drills.

The Colorado St linemen as the second round pick seemed to be a bit of a reach. As did the Bromley (DL) from Syracuse. It seems both could have been available later on in the draft.
