MLB: New York Post's opinion of ARod's retirement

What an impossible guy to like. Even in his press conference, he tried to paint himself as this guy who has "fallen down several times but always got back up." He at least acknowledged some "mistakes", but even that downplays the many levels of lying and cheating he went to.

When I heard about this my first thought was that he's facing another suspension.

I think he's just tired of being benched and wants a week of attention before he's gone.

I'm kind of surprised he's not trying to go somewhere to get his 700th before he quits.

I agree with you, but he does have until Friday to change his mind. I would not be shocked if he does sign somewhere else to try for 700.

The price he'll pay for all his cheating and lies will not being inducted into the hall of fame. All those stats he's piled up isn't going to look as impressive without that honor

Well the Yankees are paying him his full contract year, so he's staying on as a "consultant" for the rest of the year. He'd have to do some negotiating to get released to play again I think.

They are still releasing him because they have to remove him from the roster to fill his spot so once he clears waivers he is free to sign anywhere if he wants. The Yankees are on the hook for the rest of his contract regardless even if he wanted to spend the rest of that time on his couch.

He had a tremendous career, 693 homers over three thousand hits, a gold glove, played 22 years. Like Bonds, McGuire, Sosa, Palmero and most likely hundreds of others he cheated. I don't think any of them should be in the Hall. That being said what do you do with their numbers, records etc. Maris had an asterisk next to his name. Might be the way forward.
He's easy to dislike but doesn't deserve the public shaming to which he is being subjected.

He cheated. He blatantly cheated. He lied about cheating. He cashed in to a great extent because of cheating.

He absolutely deserves the public shaming...

I pointed that out as well as a number of well documented others who cheated. The roid era of the game has obviously hurt the integrity of the game. I hate what has happened to the game especially to Aaron, Ruth and Maris. Fortunately, he didn't break any long held records unlike McGuire and Bonds. That said he's no worse than any of the other cheats.

The day ARod is inducted to the HOF is the day I never watch baseball ever again.
Half of his success was due to roids. No one how got caught using roids should be in the hall of fame

You can't just ignore a period in time. In my opinion you just have to accept that steroids were used by everyone and use time period comparisons.

If ARoid can take roids and make the HOF why wouldn't every other player take roids

You have to do some what if analysis. Also I don't think you see the steroids anywhere near as prevalent anymore with increased testing, and penalties.
