I went back a bit and I didn't see any topics on this. Who are your guys' new players this year? Who did you lose last year and who are their replacements? Any worries about holes to fill? I know you have most of your offense back but that's about it.

We didn't graduate many. We were one of the youngest teams in the NCAA last year.

Still there will be some new faces and I can let other elaborate on that.

Yeah, but since we had a horrible defense, having some new players isn't necessarily a bad thing.

As the other thread says:

Who's is who for ISU on NCAA 2010?
I rented the new NCAA game and I'm trying to figure out numbers on ISU players. I know that 4 is Arnaud and 33 is Robinson. Tiller is on ISU roster as 11 but the backup to Arnaud is a #7. The backup to Robinson is 6 which I thought was Bo Williams but Williams is listed on the ISU roster as #34. There are many more than these that don't match up with the ISU rosters on the athletic site?

On defense we have to just hold the opponent to 30 points a game and then we can win some.

I really think our defense may be a pleasent surprise this year. Don't get me wrong, I'm not expecting great things, but with the change in coaches and getting rid of the Tampa what ever the heck it was called will make a difference. If we improve to 75th or 65 best in the country, it will help.

Bo Williams, transfer from Florida & Jerimiah Schwartz, redshirt freshman are expected to make an impact at running back.

Kennard Banks returns from injury at cornerback.

Darius "Money" Reynolds is expected to do good things at WR and as a Percy Harvin type role player.

There's some buzz about Matt Taufoou, an all-american JUCO linebacker.

There's a few others, but I think these are the new players expected to make the biggest impact.

Anyone can look at rosters or commitments, but you wont see who is good/bad. The OP isnt a Hawk fan **** 'in us around. He just wanted a little insight about who might be good that is new or who was good that we might have lost.

To clarify, I am looking specifically for who you guys lost on defense due to graduation, if anyone, and who you think their replacements will be. I am most curious to see how your guys' defense does this year. I know all the players on offense fairly well because that gets talked about on here quite a bit. I don't think I've seen any threads on your defense except for you guys saying that they suck. I can look at the rosters but that tells me essentially nothing. I am a hawk fan but I'm not trying to start anything, just wondering about your guys' team.

I will also be attending my first ISU game this year as a buddy and I are gonna grab tickets to the ndsu game. It's one of the first games of the season and it should be cheap. Plus it's a Thursday so I can go to that and the UNI-iowa game. Looking forward to going to my first game in Jack Trice. Any suggestion on what to wear? I want to have a good time tailgating but I don't own any ISU gear and I'm not gonna wear Hawkeye clothes obv. I'm not an ndsu fan either, just a huge fan of college football in general.

Either way I'm jacked about college football this season and all the waiting is killing me!

And before the inevitable "Why are you here" replies...I have a job where I essentially do nothing all day in an IT dept. I basically read forums all day. Love the layout of the site and you guys discuss a lot of topics. I've lurked for a long time and thought I would start posting. Also the site is free and tbh you guys get a lot of hawkeye info before the free boards on the other sites. Lots of personalities here and it seems like a cool community.

Dont wear Hawk gear, i see it every Thursday night game. I'd just wear whatever. There are plenty of fans that wear plain clothes. Maybe wear a regular red or gold shirt.

We lost DE Curtis Taylor, Travis Ferguson, and DT Micheal Tate. Taylor is the biggest loss. We lost Micheal Bibbs at LB, who was pretty decent and a few part time safeties.

If we had a good defense last year, we would've had a pretty great defense coming back, since we have a ton returning.

One big difference from last years game against Iowa will be Kennard Banks. He missed the Iowa cause he broke his collar bone or something up there in the 1st game of he year. If not for the cast on his hand, I think he played better than Leonard Johnson when he returned .

I think we will have some better players on the D line, but they will be a little wet behind the ears.

LB's will depend on how much the two jucos play. They could be big improvements, or just some more average players.

He doesn't need an even bigger head than he already had.. I would say aspire to be better than Rdubbs.

Why are you here...?

Just kidding!

My thoughts on the defense this year (I have no inside info so I'm just basing this on my opinions):
Starters returning: 3 on the d-line (Frere, Parker, Lyle), 3 linebackers (Smith, Garrin, Raven) and 2 dbacks (Smith and Johnson). I expect Maggit and Laing to challenge for playing time as DEs. Both are redshirt freshmen. Taylor Martin, a JUCO DE has not arrived in Ames yet but hopefully will soon to add more depth to that position. Frere will be on the inside and a number of guys got experience last year to fill the other position and 2 deeps--Ruempolhamer, Black, Alburtis and Bailey Johnson, plus Jake McDonough will hopefully work his way into some playing time.

At LB, Smith, Raven and Garrin will most likely be the starters with Schmidgall as the only other guy back with experience. Taufoou and Lattimer are JUCO transfers that should get into the 2 deeps right away and hopefully younger guys like Hamiln and Matthews can provide depth so they can redshirt the new guys.

At DB, James Smith is supposed to be moving to FS, and David Sims, JUCO who was here in the spring will be starting a SS most likely. L. Johnson will be at one CB spot, with Terran Benton, Allen Bell, Devin McDowell and Kennard Banks all back with a lot of experience. I have no idea who will take the other CB spot but any one of them would be solid. There isn't much solid experience backing up the safety spots, so I would think they would be trying out a lot of these guys for multiple positions.

To me, the biggest reason our defense will improve greatly is the coaching staff in place now. We may not seem to have a lot of talent, but we do have a lot of experience, both players and coaching. I think Wally will do a much better job of putting guys in the right spots to make plays. Sims and Taufoou were key transfers at positions we really needed help. Pass rush will be the biggest question mark, again. Lyle is solid, Parker has been playing for 4 years, and Maggitt is supposedly the real deal, so if they can get more pressure up front, I think the back 7 have the skills to be a really solid defense.

As long as we don't have the same carp-hole theory that they had last year on the Dline, just filling your gap and thats it, we should be better. It'll also help if:yes: they dont have Jesse Smith blitz.

We lose our best D-Lineman in DE Kurtis Taylor, he will be replaced by Chris Lyle who has played quite a bit the last 2 years, had something like 5 sacks last year. Pretty good player, plus we have a RS Fr coming in named Roosie Maggitt who no one can block. He is undersized but will most likely play a lot of 3rd downs in replace of Parker.

We lose Michael Tate, starting D-Tackle last year. Started more out of necessity rather than talent. Bailey Johnson was penciled in to start there but had a season ending injury..but he's back along with some young tackles with potential.

We lost Michael Bibbs and Cameron Bell, two guys who split the strongside duties last year. Bibbs was pretty good, but got hurt a lot. Bell had the measurables but always looked lost. To replace them we have Josh Raven, a guy with a handful of starts over the last two years and JUCO stud Matt Taufoou.

We lose SS Brandon Hunley, who could hit but not cover, we replace him with JC safety David Sims who should be an upgrade.

It will be an experienced defense but not necessarily a good one. We will probably start 8 seniors, at least at first in: Lyle, Frere, Parker, Je. Smith, Garrin, Raven, Ja. Smith, and Banks. Hopefully some younger guys can step in and take some starting roles otherwise next year the D may be in some considerable trouble.

I believe they just slapped NCAA 10 together this year in regards to the rosters. You can update the rosters online but they still are not accurate. I assume that once fall camp starts and actual depth charts are released they will update them again and hopefully they will be right.

Can I have the name and phone number of your boss?

Haha, I'm only there in case something goes wrong. My boss knows I'm so good at my job that nothing ever goes wrong, so I get to do nothing instead! :jimlad:
