Looks like Fox wants to make their own version of the NIT with B12, B10, and Big East teams. Then apparently the NIT will have the SEC and ACC leftovers.

Here we go. Give it a few years and then have Fox throw enough money around to get teams to skip the NCAA’s for this one. Eventually, we have a basketball version of the CFP and the NCAA tournament becomes the FCS playoffs with the non power leagues.

At first, I couldn't figure out who was asking for this tournament. Then I saw a tweet that suggested this might be Fox laying the groundwork for whatever happens if/when the NCAA implodes, and I suppose that could make sense.

Some people get (inexplicably, in my opinion) nostalgic for the way bowl games used to be 20+ years ago, or the BCS, compared to the playoff of today. But if the NCAA tournament as we know it ever goes away, that will truly be depressing.

I’ve posted before, but there’s just too much money brought in for the NCAA tournament TV deals for only a small portion to be distributed to the conferences. If Yormark wants basketball to mean something, that’s the money to go after.

The NCAA doesn't do much right, but it's hard to argue they don't kill it with the basketball tourney. It would take a pretty large event to knock them off that hill. I'm not saying it can't happen, and maybe Fox is hedging here, but it seems unlikely.

Edit: On second thought, this is more likely FOX's way of squeezing more advertising income rather than looking to replace anything.

I know this is only replacing the NIT but don't like it. Money grab. There is already a big divide in football with the Power conferences, don't want to see it permeate to basketball.

Seems like I wouldn't watch unless my team was in it. I'd guess TJ will outlast this tourney so we'll never be in it. Even with NIL I think players with draft potential would opt out.
