Tonight was the first time I've heard of this. I suppose the concept described in the article makes sense, artistically, but I hate to see tradition screwed with on a whim. The old trophy design (in good hands below) was unique and recognizable, just like the Lombardi Trophy. The new design is a bit too "artsy" for my liking.

Who cares if the old trophy isn't the prettiest? I hate when old traditions are broken. Even they way the players had to hold the trophy with both hands is iconic. Bad decision in my eyes.

I noticed they change the playoff logo too. They must be changing all appearances of the post season. The new logo looks like it is supposed to represent the new trophy.

Here is the new logo:

George Halas has to be rolling in his grave.

My roommate took one look at it and said, "It looks like a glorified vibrator."

I wish NFL players treated their conference championship trophies the same way NHL players do - refuse to touch them because the goal isn't to win the conference championship...

This is great timing for the NFL to do any of these changes. They could shape the trophy like a giant pile of feces and rename it whatever they want and the Leaders and Legends baby blue logo disaster would still make the changes seem brilliant.

Except they announced the change before the season even started. I understand what you are saying, and agree that most casual NFL fans won't realize the trophies were changed until tomorrow. However, I doubt many people immediately think about the B12Ten upon seeing the NFL trophies.
