NFL: New Los Angeles Football Stadium

I'm assuming that they are going to have signs up that say, "Free Dirt Available"

Yeah the Jags are a good call on moving there. Aren't they pretty much blacked out on Jax TV all the time because no one goes to the games?

That has about as much chance of happening as the Big Ten being the new home for UT...

Well you never know. The Minnesota state legislature all ready put the kibosh on financing for a new stadium for the Vikings, while the Gophers and Twins have brand new facilities. The Metrodome is one of the worst stadiums in the country, and the teams lease expires after the 2011 season (which might not be played anyway).

So yeah, it could happen.

Well the bathrooms are good enough for hawkeyes to boink in.

It would be a shame if the Vikings left, but I would not be surprised. The gophers really hosed them when they decided to build their own Stadium, but I can't blame them. The Vikings are really in a tough situation now, I sure hope they don't leave.

I think Jacksonville is most likely candidate.

I agree that Jacksonville or Carolina makes more sense to move then Minnesota, but I do know that Minnesota wants a new stadium bad. I really don't want the Vikings to move... I will not cheer for a team from LA

UM football would become the big dog in town if the Vikings left. All of a sudden their program could have a lot more $$.

As a Vikings fan living in LA I fear for the possibilities. Its not like the precedent has not already been set (Lakers anyone?) or the fact that L.A. seemingly loves to poach professional sports fanchises from other cities. (Lakers, Dodgers)

Besides that I fear that the a new NFL team would be subject to the fickleness of the LA fan and the stadium would be half empty for the 1st and 4th quarters.

Minny should have built one stadium for both the Vikings and Gophers. I know the Gophers wanted an on campus venue. However beggars can't be choosers. Also, their campus is downtown and farily close to the Metrodome site. You'd think they would be able to find a solution that worked for both teams (especially if the alternative was not getting a new stadium).

Their dominance pretty much ended at the same time the Vikings arrived. I'm sure there are a variety of reason the Gophers fell from elite status, but I'd guess the arrival of a new team to take some of their support was one of them.

You know what really ticks me off?

The Gophers will have this insane new stadium right in the heart of a major city with 15+ Million more in TV money alone and they still suck.

I went to a seminar a few weeks back in which the Viking's "ambassador" to the State of Minnesota discussed the situation and some economics of the stadium issue in Minnesota.

He basically said the the state of MN receives nearly $25 million in taxes from the Vikings being in town. The debt service on a new stadium would be between $29 & $40 million per year, depending on design features and most notably an operable roof.

The Vikings don't care about a roof, but defer to whether the State wants to have a stadium with a roof that could be used for other events year round (Final Fours, Soccer, Hockey, Monster Truck, conventions, etc)

Anyway, for the Vikings needs of a a football stadium, it would only cost the state about $5 Million/year (difference between tax revenue and stadium debt service). The risk of letting the Vikings leave, would be $25 Million in lost Tax revenue.

That's a pretty compelling argument, IMO.

I can see the following teams moving.
Carolina
Buffalo
Jacksonville
Minnesota
I was listening to a thing of Tony Bruno a couple nights ago and this main guy that is in charge of this project said they want the stadium to be for 2 teams and host major college football bowls.
