Nice to see Marcus and Sam sticking around. Getting Reineri in the room is HUGE for our lightweights and their development. He has a win over Gilman in 2020 and is an extremely high caliber wrestler for the CRTC.

And a very, very nice young man.

Looks like Reineri is enrolled as well, according to the student directory.
No idea how old he is or how eligibility would work for him, but perhaps he'll be a factor with the lightweights in the next season or two.

Sign me up for a pipeline of wrestlers from Cuba to Ames. No idea if Reineri would have any eligibility or interest in NCAA wrestling (he's 25), but can't hurt to have a guy like that in the room! Also, could just be a great opportunity to get a great education while still being in wrestling. I would imagine part of an RTC athlete's compensation could be tuition, etc.

Watching the highlight video made me think about our Freestyle & Greco here in Iowa. If you haven’t been to one lately, go to one. The tournament at Simpson last weekend was awesome. There is some good wrestling going on in our cadet/junior levels. The schedule is on the iowausa wrestling website.

A question. It doesn't seem like these men have a future in advancing to major titles. Is there objective furthering their education, trying coaching or something else. I get it if they are want to enhance their resumes for a career path. Just hanging on to wrestle doesn't seem very good. An interview with them might be interesting.

It is usually the following 5 reasons:
1. Make a World or Olympic team…several non-NCAA Champions have done so. FS is different and some are just late bloomers
2. Make top 3 at weight to gain US Wrestling $ to go with RTC $
3. Continue education
4. Staying in competitive wrestling will significantly increase your chance of getting a college coaching position.
5. Not ready to give up competition and drive to get better

I know you may not understand but not everyone cares about a good pay check. There’s more to life than $. These guys are chasing a dream.

Taking a step back from competing and managing weight as a daily grind in college vs the freestyle schedule also allows these guys a different perspective on the sport. They can grow their knowledge in a different way and that helps when they are wrestling/coaching up/working with the younger college athletes.

I know our CRTC isn’t really a thing right now, but not 1 athlete ranked in the top10 at any weight is a massive disappointment.

More of a point that our undergrads are concentrating on folkstyle & getting healthy.

Coleman & Schuyler never competed in US Open

My bad I was just looking at P4P. The fact Carr isn’t on there is a failure of the ranker not him. He is top 5 at 74kg.
Correct on Carr, but never competed at US Open because he wants to concentrate on winning another NCAA title. So rankings are flawed.

Also our Cubans can’t compete in US Open or Team Trials
