Will be where the current city hall is (across from Walgreens).
I get the idea of kids getting exercise and learning teamwork, but if some of that money was used to educate them, it might prove more beneficial in the long run.

I'd argue that the lessons learned playing sports are more valuable than 75% of the stuff they are "learning" now in the class room.

The youth sports arms race continues. Happy for Grimes though someone was going to build one of these soon. They got it and it will be a nice addition for the town.
However personally I think this big investment from developers and parents is not doing the kids many favors as it only adds extra pressures to kids activities.

Trying to find a link I can share this but I am told Grimes has this hidden. One of the local business leaders brought to attention an item that got added to the city council meeting for discussion tomorrow. The developer of the GrimesPlex is now wanting to turn the entire project over to the city to finish including donating the 50 acres of land and $12 million to advance the project. Right now all the site has done is they basically graded the land last summer and started putting in some of the storm drain system but that is basically it so A LOT of infrastructure still to go in to complete what was originally reported as a $250-400 million dollar project. The plan was the developer would eventually turn over the entire complex and operations to the city after 10 years but now apparently wants to get out of it before it is even remotely finished.
Something seems a bit off. If anyone reading this is from Grimes the actual meeting memo on this is posted on the Rants & Raves Facebook page. I can't find anything on the City website of this official memo which seems shady as hell considering it is being discussed at the city council meeting tomorrow and is kind of being buried so it doesn't get as much public attention. For a project that size you'd think you'd want public input before taking on something of that size and expense.

Supposedly will be the largest sportsplex in the Midwest
Already see the traffic being an issue ar 44 and Gateway where the traffic to the complex will be. With the new Hyvee and development to the north its getting g a lot more traffic. It's basically 2 lanes plus a middle turn lane and for the ammount of visitors they project it will bring it should have been built out with 4 lanes plus turn lanes. I'm sure it will be an expensive project to correct it some day once the traffic issues are realized.
