Ok, I may have messed up, but hopefully the kind folks on this board will be able to help me out.
We have a nook above our fireplace mantle and below our TV. There was a coaxial/phone plate in the nook. I wanted to replace the phone out with an Ethernet out. Didn't realize the phone line was stapled to our support beams. Also didn't realize the lines didn't go directly down to the basement. They go horizontal for about a foot behind the wall because the mantle acts as a cross beam, so I couldn't just feed the ethernet cable down. Attached the ethernet to the phone, gave it a good yank, they got separated somewhere in the middle.
Backup plan: attach ethernet to cable line (we don't have cable and use streaming which is why I wanted an Ethernet hardline). Attached the Ethernet to the cable line, gave a good yank, the cable line snapped. So now, I have the Ethernet attached real good to the cable line, about 2 feet into the hole.
How can I finish the job? I'm thinking about using a hole saw to cut a larger hole in the unfinished basement so I can at least see where the heck my cable is. If I can't find it, am I SOL? I'd rather not cut into our drywall as we have a new house.
Thanks in advance for any help.
