Take it for what its worth, I'm not trying to sell anyone on false hope here, But now is not the time to scrap coordinators. Its year two, the systems are still kinked and the personell is still not what it needs to be. Right now our foot is smaller than the shoe we're putting it in and it makes the play calling look bad.
Coach Chizik, Coach MacFarland and Coach Bolt have a plan, They are sticking to it, they are making it the way of life. ISU will live or die by this plan. Obviously its going to take time to fill positions and get exactly the poise that we need to run the plays and schemes that we do. Youve seen our inferior athletes work in this system against inferior opponents. (Kent State-SDSU) That is EXACTLY what this offense will look like against B12 opponents once the shoe fits. We must give it time to happen and embrace the team and coaches right now. Afterall, Chizik is the man we all trust and believe in, and ultimately, he is the one making the decisions week after week on Adjustments that the coordinators need to make as well. Give it some time, keep showing up. If 2-3 years down the road, we arent where we want to be and we are in situations like this year and last. Then its time to look for change. Hope to see you all at Jack Trice this weekend.

The one fundamental flaw in your argument is that there's no guarantee that we will ever have an athletic advantage over Big 12 teams like we had against SDSU and Kent St.

Then the game plans adjust drastically, But you cant scrap it this early when your trying to accomplish something. next year, the guys will know it THAT much better because we stuck to it, The year after that as well. Stick to your guns

I think the important question is who is the chick on your sig?

Seriously, I don't get the coaching bashing going on around here either. I don't see how you can't be encouraged by our offense. We simply have zero experienced playmakers and our O-line's troubles with inexperience and talented depth, which we are building, are well documented.

As for the D..people forget Gene Chizik is one of the nations smartest defensive guys in the nation. This is a guy who has coached some insane defenses. Anyone who thinks he somehow forgot how to coach a defense is nuts and your naive if you think he doesn't have a heavy hand in the defense. The horses are not there yet and we are still in a lot of games that we just have not figured out how to win or close out.

:notworthy: I'm riding the same bus as "33". :notworthy:
I'm not proud of our record but my panties are not in a wad.

I am proud of the players and coaches. They aren't whining. They aren't complaining. They are positive and they act like the role models I'd want my kids and grandkids to emulate. I do see growth and I believe there will be more. I've waited longer -- for less.

Let's go Cyclones!

I'll admit I had my 30 minute yelling at the TV and talking with buddies on how the game was handled right after the CU game....just wanted to start by saying that.

I also know that once I calmed down....realized that these are "OUR" guys now. We don't need to be throwing anyone under the bus just yet. It is year 2. Yes, we have had some tough losses that we "should/could-have" won. We have a young team....new coaching staff....we just need to keep with what we have been doing in order to get better for next year. Hopefully, this year will be looked at by these players as added motivation for next season....and the same for the coaches.

Keep coming to the games and supporting these guys too. We are Cyclones....not Sqawks.

I agree you can't put a lot of this on the coaches because we don't have the athletes to compete and execute. We're young. But I certainly was hoping for more progress during the season.

We will very very rarely compete with Texas and OU, so we need to make sure we are atleast 3-1 after the non-conference schedule every year. This means, no more Mountain West teams like Utah or UNLV. And no more MAC teams. We need FAU, Florida International, Buffalo and whoever else Iowa plays.

Agree 200% (that's the new 100%). Our defense is the most jekyl and hyde defense I've ever seen at ISU. They look great at times getting to the QB or forcing a turnover. The problems have come with making stops on 3rd and 4th down and covering the wide receivers in the 4th quarter. I think our run defense has been just fine. We need more depth and that will come when Chizik is able to recruit his players. I hate to say it, but right now ISU is relying on some juniors and seniors who just don't know how to close out games. Our juniors and seniors were here in 2005 when ISU lost 3 games in OT including the heartbreaker to Kansas. The coaches need to get new players in here so we can get rid of that mindset.

Other than turning out and supporting the team the only thing we have control over as fans is the amount of pressure or the amount of patience we exert. Let’s do our part and give Coach Chizik the 5 necessary years to build the program. Go Cyclones!

I completely agree word for word. Good Lord, we're just a little past a year and a half in this system and some are hitting the panic button. Yeah, this season is a little frustrating but I'm more than willing (and patient) to give Gene the next two to three years to get the desired result.

I don't think we need (or can possibly have) such an advantage--but it would be nice to see what the coordinators can do as the talent playing field approached level.

Good post 33. A quick fix will not result in long term success. I agree with the philosophy that the coaches need to stick with the system that they believe works. This team may lack the talent to make that system effective, but the young players are gaining experience and that will pay off as more talent is brought in.

Anyone that can't see the upgrade in talent that has been achieved in the early stages of GC's tenure is not paying attention. If we stay behind these coaches and stay patient as they continue to add talent, we are going to be rewarded.

If it takes 5 years to rebuild and win for Gene it is going to be very ugly, as a large part of the fanbase is nearing the apathy / uninterested phase.

I'm not letting the coordinatiors totally off the hook, at least not the defensive coord, and more specifiacally the DB coach. I understand if we get beat on a route or out jumped for the ball, but when our DBs are not within 20 yards of the opponents receivers game after game, you have to wonder if they are being coached correctly.

But I do agree 2-3 more years is needed before the ax comes out on anybody. Just wish we would see a little improvement with the years passing.

If 33's argument is that we will succeed once Chizik gets "his" guys in there who have talent that is tailored to the schemes he's trying to run, then I agree.

However, the argument was couched in terms making it sound like the current schemes will only be effective when we have talent that is superior than the opposition which, in the Big 12, is probably a pipe dream.

I agree, I was pretty mad after watching that game, actually REALLY pi*sed off. I was quick to throw Bolt under the bus, buuuuuuut to my suprise the sun did rise the next day.....give them their chance to prove themselves........still bitter towards the ease at which CU scored the last 2 td's
