Tim Tebow, New York Jets QB, most overrated, per Sports Illustrated poll - ESPN New York

Here's the list:
1) Tim Tebow
2) Mark Sanchez
3) Tony Romo
4) Mike Vick
5) Ray Lewis
6) Reggie Bush
7) Nnamdi Asomugha
8) Micheal Crabtree
9) Tom Brady
10) Ndamukong Suh
11) B.J. Raji
12) Brian Urlacher
13) Philip Rivers
14) Dwayne Bowe
15) Eli Manning
16) Cam Newton
17) Troy Polamalu
18) Darnell Dockett
19) DeAngelo Hall
20) Roddy White

The funny part is that Tebow led with 34% of the vote. The next closest player got 8%. That's what I call a landslide. Some of those names are surprising to me, but I guess the players have additional insight, having actually played against these people.

Tom Brady and Eli Manning at least have these things on their fingers called rings. That is enough for me to not consider them horribly overrated.

Not surprised that Romo is that high. Any QB in Dallas who hasn't won a trophy for them will be on the list simply because all of the hype that constantly surrounds the QB position in Dallas. It's unfortunate for QB's that play in the same organization that Staubach and Aikman played in. I don't lay a lot of blame for Dallas' struggles this year on Romo, though. I think he has done fairly well (most of the time) considering the patchwork line he has had to work with although I must admit I haven't seen a few of their games.

yeah, that was surprising to me as well. Then again, in Brady's case, perhaps they consider Belichick's system to be a big contributing factor to his success.

Ray Lewis seems like an odd choice.
I'm not surprised. Same story goes for Brian Urlacher. Yeah 10 years ago these guys were the best linebackers in the game but anymore they're just making a living off their reputations. They're average linebackers now that they've lost a step and aren't the same players they were even 5 years ago yet they're still viewed as elite.

Urlacher is much closer to still being an elite LB than Ray Lewis. Lewis had become an average LB at best before he got hurt this year.

I think Tebow is the most over hyped, not overrated. You have to play in order to be overated. I vote Philip Rivers as the most overrated.

Urlacher is ALWAYS on this list and I just don't see it... Even with one and a half legs he is still all over the field making plays...

This list doesn't mean these players are actually bad. At this poitn in his career, Lewis's ability is being vastly exceeded by his reputation. This could be a list of most talked about players in the media, and it would line up in a similar fashion. Tebow is simply villified not because of what he can do, but because the media sets him up for the fall every morning.

I mean it's obvious he's not the player he was 6 years ago, but the guy would still be top 10 in tackles if he had played last week.

Some of the older guys didn't play against the younger guye so they are evaluating them now. Not ray lewis 8-9 years ago

Not sure why Urlacher and Ray Lewis are on the list. They both on the twilight of their respective careers, and most of the sports pundits say so.

They're not rated as high this year by the experts---so they can't really be 'over-rated' at this point

I am guessing if you ran a poll of the post "popular" or most "publicized" players, that would produce a similar list.

Vick is more overrated than Tebow. Nobody with any football knowledge thinks Tebow is even a mediocre qb, lots of people think Vick is talented.

Also no one thinks Lewis and Urlacher are great anymore. Just b/c they're not the two most talented LBs in the league anymore doesn't make them overrated.

This should be called the overhyped list maybe, if people base talent ratings on hype.

I think its actual name of this should be the "List of people we players are jealous of because they get the endoresement dollars and we dont"

Other than not having Matty Ice on it, that list is pretty damn accurate.

If you're wondering how Urlacher is on this list, you haven't been paying attention to it through the years. Urlacher used to be the #1 guy on it just a few years ago.
