Monté Morris: "Pray for Flint"

It would be neat to set something up for CF to easily donate. If you guys are willing to do a little research about how our money would be best spent, I'll thrown some down.

Just click on the United Way link and submit there bc it's very simple and forsure the mo why is being used for the cause.

What I don't understand is, according to that story, they switched back the water supply to Detroit last October. Why is there still a crisis then? Did that not return the water to safe levels? Doesn't make sense.

Edit: Read through a few of the stories, the problem is Flint's water system is full of lead pipes and the corrosiveness of the water they used from the river has caused them to leach more lead than normal. The real problem is the lead pipes of the city that should have been replaced by the city decades ago. Who knows, maybe lead levels were always above federal standards and the city has somehow hidden that for years, what is sure is that they are above safe standards now and the problem will only be fixed by replacing the infrastructure. Not promising for the residents, very sad story of decades of mismanagement.

The lead is in the pipes. The water corroded the pipes. They need to replace the pipes at this point.

And the crisis of people who were subjected to the harmful water and the unknown of lasting health issues.

The white overlords in Lansing knew how bad the levels were, and did nothing. That is the main crime.

Simplified Version of how I understood it.
I believe there was an issue with over chlorination of the Flint River water because they chose the cheapest way possible to treat it instead of doing it right, which lowered the Ph of the water, and they were testing at the plant, which showed normal levels of lead. That water then goes into their **** system with lead pipes which was normally ok because those pipes had a calcium lining due to the decades of use with the Detroit water. In the meantime the acidic Flint water eats away the calcium lining and exposes the lead and now they have a major ******* problem. ...to the point where just changing the water source isn't necessarily going to bring down the lead concentrations immediately.

That's how it was explained to me anyway - fwiw.
