Thoughts after two days spent with Iowa State football players last week and Matt Campbell's comments on Sunday's podcast.

Great write-up and a great read. As I reflect on some of the comments on the board, discussing NIL and general college landscape, I'm left asking a question.

Does our fanbase believe Matt Campbell when he says the things he does?

Or does it get chalked up to "coach speak"? I know he obviously has more nuanced and specific conversations with leaders of his program, but I tend to believe the guy with what he says he's building the program around and what he's trying to do in the development of them as players and men.

When people discuss NIL and paying to get recruits, sometimes feels like people think we're saying one and doing another.

Do they think Iowa State is saying one thing and doing another? Or are we saying something different than other schools are?

well I take Campbell at his word. Big believer in patterns and actions and both seem to indicate he says what he believes and he's walking it out.

A vocal contingent on the boards seem to believe in the post NIL world it's pay to play and ISU either is or isn't going to be able to navigate those waters to be successful.

Not going to dig up posts to try and argue my case, but that's been my perception.

NIL is going to hit basketball harder than it will football. Very few kids can just step into college football and be successful so relationships and development are always going to matter. Yeah kids are going to get paid but it won't be like hoops.
