Just an FYI today Direct TV Launched MLB TV, Channel 213. They have been showing a Hot Stove Show and the replay of Don Larson's Perfect Game starting at 5:00 pm today.

Some of the commercials from the Larson's game are terrific. Bob Costas is narrarating.

Been watching off and on all day since it launched at 6pm. Love this channel already. I may be in the minority but baseball season can not come soon enough for me.

So what will it do during the regular season? Show a random game, or be like MLB.TV where you get to pick one to watch?

I love baseball and I can't wait for Spring Training to start. This channel is going to be great. With so many baseball games each day I hope they get to carry some quality games.

That is too bad. With so many games I would think it would be too much to ask to show to live games a week or something like that. Good news is there is always baseball on somewhere.

I read somewhere that during the season their calling card is going to be a 3 to 4 hour long live, in-studio show on weeknights. It will start with the first games on the East Coast & continue on throughout the night as games are going on across the country. Think something like Baseball Tonight with live updates from all of the games that are going on except the show will be on all night long.

If they play their cards right, this network could be huge among hard-core baseball fans. I can barely even watch ESPN's baseball coverage anymore b/c it's for the most part just a Yankees-Red Sox lovefest. A dedicated network like this could really be an effective marketing tool for all of the teams, not just the ones in major markets.

Two months til Spring Training games......

Why does DirectTV have to keep trying to lure me in, this is the way to my heart. I am guessing the show discussed above will be similar to the live show on XM during the games, would be cool.

The rebroadcast of the Larsen game was pretty cool. Just some random observations:

* Apparently Gillette was the only company that advertised during the broadcast (except for one ad I saw for PaperMate pens)

* Like most perfect games/no-hitters, there were a couple of dramatic moments that made things exciting. Mantle made a pretty sweet running catch in the insanely large left-center gap of old Yankee Stadium. Duke Snider crushed a ball that went just foul down the right field line early in the game. And Jackie Robinson was apparently retired on weird play in the first inning, but the footage from the first inning was missing.

* It was pretty amazing to see/hear Vin Scully calling the game. The guy was working a game in the 1956 World Series and he's still going strong for the Dodgers.

All the promotional talk on the channel says HD, however I don't believe direct TV is broadcastion the HD feed right now. At least it does not look like it on my TV.

It is in HD. Most of the content won't be if they are showing old games, though.
